    2. If there were girls interspersed among the 5 boys and they stayed and married in Ireland, you might find their marriages in the civil marriage index on the familysearch.org pilot site. Registration of non-Catholic marriages began in 1845 and there are two marriages of Barber brides in Monaghan in the index, one in 1846, the other 1848. You might get the registrations, determine the parishes, then hope they've been filmed by the LDS, as that could lead you to the boys' baptisms. Diane

    3. I've done research in Monaghan for a few people, the main problem I have is getting the information in concise form from the person wanting research done. I've had to email them maybe 6 times to get the story straight before even starting looking in order to just get the facts straight on who is who. The history of what they did after arriving in US etc clouds everything, like they had 6 children there, they moved from NY to Boston etc has nothing to do with finding them in Ireland.. What you really need to do is cut everything down to a mimimum..known names, religion, dates, facts etc for their time in Ireland, up to when they landed in US, ship record, etc . Don't forget than an hour or two can't be wasted just trying to get the known facts straight and this is charged for. There's a lot of information already available on line, many people here help as much as possible, so exhaust everything before looking for a researcher, the 1901 census is coming online soon. The less research needed the less it costs! On 31/03/2010 08:00, [email protected] wrote: > Today's Topics: > > 1. 1821 Census Abstracts (Dave Hall) > 2. Looking for a researcher in C. When I first started out, I paid for a researcher and was very happy with the results. 1. Re: [IRL-MONAGHAN] Looking for a researcher in C. Monaghan
    2. Marc Rafferty
    3. Beverly, I hired Ulster Ancestry, the group that Laurie mentions in the previous post, to research my Co. Monaghan ancestry. As with MANY failed attempts I have made on my own, they were unable to produce any direct documentation of my Rafferty or Hanratty families from Co. Monaghan. Given that my family immigrated to America in 1845, it may not surprise you that there just wasn't that much information available prior to that time. However, I was prepared to 'grasp at straws' in an attempt to learn more. That being said, I felt they charged a fair price for 12 hours of research, and they produced a comprehensive report of any reference to these surnames that they could locate within the county. If you hire someone, you just accept that you are paying for their services with no guarantees that you will receive that elusive document or record. I wish you much success in your research.
