    3. Hi James (or Seamus), I don't have any info to add about your Farrell's but it is a small world to have your sister also living in Flushing! My parents emigrated to New York in the 1950s and ended up in Queens. I'm the only one of my generation to stay in Queens but we love it. With my wife being Korean, we get the best of all worlds here in the most diverse county in the US. Nice to meet your acquaintance. :) Best regards, Mike Carragher Flushing, NY The Carragher World Family Tree http://carragherfamily.org [email protected] A Carragher-Carraher-Caraher One-Name Study [email protected] -----Original Message----- From: James Coleman [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, April 18, 2010 9:03 AM To: IRL-MONAGHAN Subject: [IRL-MONAGHAN] Castleblaney connections Read with interest messages from Mike Carragher and Margaret Malloy reference Castleblaney connections. My Farrells lived in York Street, Castleblaney where my great great grandfather Francis Farrell lived. His wife was a Mary McMahon. Their son James Farrell came to Dalry, Ayrshire, Scotland where he married a Margaret Legge in St Palladius RC Church in 1851. James & Margaret's 'best' maid was a Mary Farrell; most likely a relation of James. James and Margaret's off spring are many and widely spread throughout the world. For example my older sister Betty lives in Flushing, NY where I note that Mike also lives. Anyone recognize any of this? Margaret Malloy name seems to 'ring a bell'. Did we communicate before? 3. Hi Margaret! I love getting a connection :) Yes, Annie Carragher is part of my tree. You can see her on my tree here - my great grand aunt: http://carragherfamily.org/getperson.php?personID=I158&tree=Moneyvolan1 I would love to have pictures. Please let me know if it would be alright to post on my site. I have a few albums of old photos to start working on. My dad remembers John Farrell well, his father's first cousin. When I looked at the Griffiths Valuation, I see a Michael Farrell in Cloghan (listed at #15). Is that Francis' father? My dad asked about your family - did your great grandmother emigrate? I assume by your email that you're out west somewhere. Anything I could do on my trip, please ask. There must be graves in Annyalla - do you have photos? Stay in touch. 1. [IRL-MONAGHAN] Updates to The Silver Bowl Web site
    2. Sharon Oddie Brown
    3. Over the past month, I have updated many of the footnotes on the deeds and letters on my web site and have also added considerable new material on other pages. The new material can always be found on the "What's New" link. http://www.thesilverbowl.com/misc/whatsnew.htm The date of the updates of previously uploaded documents is recorded beside the item on the appropriate pages - eg "Letters" - then the date column: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/letters/letters.html There are currently over 500 annotated letters and deeds on the site as well as histories, news clippings and family trees. Since my web site is personally funded and managed (not part of a genealogy site - and it only costs me $100 or so to pay the server each year and a few grey hairs to keep it working), this means that you can do a Google site search for anything that interests you. For example, if the name BOYD is your interest, just do a site search for all mentions of BOYD.Bit by bit, I am also doing updates in ways that make it easier to find material (sometimes I can't find things myself). I have also added a few hundred more names to the family tree that I maintain at rootsweb. That is always the most up to date version to check. Links to this are in my signature beneath. As always, if errors are spotted, please let me know and I will attend to them ASAP. -- Sharon Oddie Brown Roberts Creek, BC, Canada History Project: http://www.thesilverbowl.com/ Some Become Flowers: http://www.harbourpublishing.com/title/SomeBecomeFlowers Family Tree: http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?db=silverbowl

    3. Greetings Ciaran Potter: I received your request for a copy of the obituary of my ancestor, James McAviney, that appeared in the Clones Advocate in November 1900. The text is 2 pages and the list of attendees is 2 more pages with 130 names. If you will email to me your mailing address, I will "snailmail" a copy back to you. I think it best to handle it in this manner. In your recent email to me, you asked: "Let me know what names and timelines are of interest to you". I have much material, but will reduce it for now to the following: My grandparents were Catherine Gunn and Owen McAviney living in the Clonkeen area, Clones. As a widow, she emigrated to New Jersey, USA, with my 13 year-old grandfather, Philip McAviney, in 1851. He returned to Clones in 1901, a year after his cousin, James McAviney died there. His clipping from that funeral in Sacred Heart Church, is the clipping I will soon air mail to you. The deceased James McAviney ran the "Butter and Meat yard" at the bottom of Fermanagh Street adjacent to the later named Creighton Hotel. May I ask what your genealogy connection is with Clones and County Monaghan? I have relatives in Monaghan and have had contact with Theo McMahon and others there over the past dozen years. I appreciate your offer to assist me and look forward to further contact. Thank you very much. Phil McDonnell, [email protected] My USA address is 30 Adam Way, Atherton, CA 94027

    3. Hey, Some Catholic Church records I´ve transcribed for Clones can be found at the following excellent website of a good friend of mine Claire. http://www.claires-rosleaancestry.co.uk/records.htm This website mainly focuses on the Roslea town part of the Clones Parish (which lay on both sides of the border south and north). Thus there are records for Roslea on this particular page, but also marriage and borth records for Clones town itself. Therefore of particular interest to yourself should be the links for Clones Births 1866-1881 and also Clones Marriages 1866-1881 Let me know what names and timelines are of interest to you. 2. Again, it depends on the time period. Many Catholic parish records have been filmed by the LDS, and they would show baptisms and marriages but usually not funerals. Beginning in 1864, you can use the civil registration index on the familysearch pilot search for births, marriages, and deaths. You don't need a genealogist to do either, but you can get a list of researchers on the National Library site--nli.ie Diane
