    1. [MEATH] Meath Heritage Centre
    2. Hi List: I, too, have had some experience with the Meath Heritage Centre and Parish Priests! About 6 years ago, I first contacted the Centre in reference to my CORCORAN and MONTAGUE ancestors, from Johnstown, Navan, along with a cousin's ancestors, the MULVANEY's, from Furze, Navan. The Centre was very helpful and sent all they could find, along with a bill. I kept contacting them, and finally, they had all their records on computer, so they sent more on the MONTAGUES, but nothing on the CORCORAN's. They also let me know that they have several publications available on searching for your ancestors. I still kept contacting them, and the last suggestion I got was to contact the Parish Priest in Johnstown (they didn't know his name!), which I did, with a check. I was one of the lucky ones! A few weeks later, I received a letter from one of the parishioners! Seem the priest turned my letter over to him because he had recently completed a little booklet of all the Monument Inscriptions in the town cemetery...and the MONTAGUEs were buried there! We corresponded for about 6 months and each time I enclosed a check...and each time it was cashed! He sent his booklet and lots of pictures of the tombstones, the cemetery, and the town. He even went to the Heritage Centre to check for some more info and gave them a copy of his booklet. I must have made a mistake when I mentioned that I might be coming to Ireland soon, and would contact him if and when I did. I never heard from him again!! So, then I wrote to the Parish Priest where I think the CORCORAN's originated, and enclosed a check. That was about two years ago...and I've heard nothing! But the check was cashed! To me, the Heritage Centre was a great help, and well worth what it cost, but it looks like the parish priests just don't want to be bothered. Mary Jean Gardner Baltimore, Maryland
