No, I don't know what's correct. I see what you mean, on the Meath site. I just checked another resource, http://www.seanruad.com/cgi-bin/iresrch. It has ...eer, as well. I confirmed the "Ballinlough" location on the maps I sent you. Clearly it's adjacent to ...eer on the map, so they're the same place. It sounds like you sent a letter. It'll get to the right place, with either spelling. It's odd, though, but probably because you, or I, are unaware of some historical issue surrounding the name. The Welsh use "y" often, for example.
