    2. Bryan Morgan
    3. From Bryan in Wales... My sincere thanks for the kind appreciation received from so many of you for the pictures of Oldcastle. My modem is now in a bucket of water cooling off. On my next visit I will do a similar job on other places in the area. I would have done this time but it rained. Oh how it rained... It's the worst summer in living memory over there and farmers unable to make hay or silage are seriously concerned about how they are to feed their livestock this winter. Cara says the cars were "modern" - you bet they were. Ireland has severe laws that prevent unsafe "Old Bangers" from taking to the road. The vehicle insurance is sky high, easily being in the region of £700 ($980) for a year's BASIC insurance for a small compact. Add to that an annual 'road tax' of £400 ($560) and motoring in Ireland becomes an expensive business. Yet being so rural, you have to have a car or you don't get to get anywhere. Yes there is a limited bus service from Oldcastle to Kells, Navan etc, but what happens when you live eight miles from the bus stop? Incidentally you can tell the age and place of registration of an Irish car by its number plate. Just visible in the last of my photos is a car number plate that starts with '01 CN', which means it's a 2001 model registered in Cavan. Now a bit for Eileen: The ancient Celtic "Cross of Kells" always used to stand at the crossroads in the centre of the town. Recently this centuries old monument was hit by a bus and very nearly destroyed. Thankfully it has been restored and moved to a safe place on a plinth outside the old courthouse where it is also under a nicely designed perspex canopy to prevent further weather erosion, and a panel describing its history. Interesting history was centered there, like for example, Meath was a Province of Ireland, but the King didn't play well with the Kings next door, so he and his kindom was ousted. >

    2. Bryan Morgan
    3. Cara, three points. 1. I'm known to the world as Bryan. (Mr. Morgan? Who's he?) 2. >>"But one question I have for Mr Morgan if the Kings did not play well with >>the Kings next door, ( quote from your email) "so he and his kindom was >>ousted" what is a kindom.........his family or his ???" I didn't write that - nothing to do with me! It's a signature file generated by the list owner... 3. >>"Cheey Cara" Er - what's a 'Cheey'?
