    3. To all those who have searched or are searching the area of OLD CASTLE IN 1996 I began the task of "trying" to find the ellusive Thomas O"Donoghue's birth and his parents Elizabeth nee Burns and Michael taking many channels 1) Co Cavan Genealogical Centre Canna House Cavan and this was a quote from their reply * Old Castle is on the border between Cavan and Meath and based on your information we have carried out a search of the parishes in the area but regret we failed to find either the birth record of Thoams or the marriage of his parents*. They then handed the request to Meath Heritage Genealogy centre to carry out a search of their records..........the reason being as a Sweet parish priest told us Father Conlan to be exact and I quote again from his letter * Had he been born in OldCastle Parish, I have no doubt that the entry would be in our records BUT he may have been born in OLDCASTLE but outside the parish of Oldcastle..........Ballinacree has an Oldcastle address but is in the Parish of Mount Nugent............he then sent us to a Father John Molloy who then told us that as parishes closed in this area ............which meant that they could have an OLDCASTLE address .......their books were handed to another parish ..........Now this search has been going on for six years and is no closer to the parentage of this ellusive man ........... So for all of your chasing OLDCASTLE registrations all I can say to you is look in all the parishes within the area surrounding the place ........you never know who you may find and one day it may be your missing link........... By the way there was 6 Oldcastles listed in Ireland .............are we all in the right area ????? Cheers Cara ----- Original Message ----- From: "Paul E. 3. Thanx, Cara. I had no clue, RE the border issue. As I mentioned I sent a letter to the Oldcastle priest, many months ago, with no reply. This was after he promised a local acquaintance of mine that he would help. Would you be willing to share your contact info for the surrounding parishes? Take care, Paul -----Original Message----- From: Cara_Links [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Wednesday, July 03, 2002 5:49 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [MEATH] searching Old castle To all those who have searched or are searching the area of OLD CASTLE IN 1996 I began the task of "trying" to find the ellusive Thomas O"Donoghue's birth and his parents Elizabeth nee Burns and Michael taking many channels 1) Co Cavan Genealogical Centre Canna House Cavan and this was a quote from their reply * Old Castle is on the border between Cavan and Meath and based on your information we have carried out a search of the parishes in the area but regret we failed to find either the birth record of Thoams or the marriage of his parents*. Interesting history was centered there, like for example, Meath was a Province of Ireland, but the King didn't play well with the Kings next door, so he and his kindom was ousted.
