The Irish are as capable and sophisticated as the rest of the western world, and believe me I am also "one who knows" through being a constant visitor on business between Wales, where I live and work, and highly technical and capable manufacturing concerns in both Northern Ireland and the Irish Republic. I am able to do this because Ryanair flights from Cardiff are fast (35 minutes duration), efficient and geared up for today's business practices Your remark suggesting that we "adopt the Irish way of life and just ease down" beggars belief. If these people don't respond to requests for information then they are simply inefficient and that inefficiency needs addressing. It is not because they are "Irish for Heaven's sakes" as you rather clumsily put it. They have the capabilities and certainly the technology to turn genealogy into an efficient, respected and potentially revenue-generating industry and I am at a loss to work out why they haven't done so. But it's certainly not merely because they are "IRISH". In my home in Wales I have access to a Monmouthshire "heritage centre", as I do in Gloucestershire, Devonshire, Bristol and as far as I know in every other British county. In each I have access to libraries, microfilm, microfiche, photocopying and in many cases the original records themselves. I am used to a 'search room' where I can book a viewer and work at my own speed guided by knowlegeable and enthusiastic staff and it doesn't cost the earth either - if it costs anything at all. I went to Trim expecting the same and was very sadly disappointed by the sheer amateurism of the facility on offer. Their website is misleading in this respect and their charges very high for a second rate service. Describing this sort of fiasco as representative of the nation's overall characteristics is just plain offensive. The use of terms such as your wanting us to be "aware what it's like in Ireland - NO ONES in a hurry" doesn't describe the fast moving hi-tech Ireland I deal with. If that attitude is encountered, then a backside deserves to be kicked and you do this by complaining LOUDLY at senior management or government minister level, not by sitting meekly back and waiting for up to year during which time your money is accruing interest in their accounts. 3. Sir, I would have like to challenged you down the web but you of course no that it would cause a falme You carefully worded your line when you stated I am bordering on being a Racist ........ indeed you then go on to give yourself a wonderful pat on the back by flying with Ryanair how nice for you what about travelling with the countries own air line Aer Lingus .......no one questioned there abilities in the high tech world and sir you are not the only one who travels for work to and from the country of Ireland .......and I travel much further than you find the service I use to also be efficient and geared for todays world ....... What I was trying to get across here is the fact that some of these centers are only run by volunteers you have chosen to think that I border on racismn I am of the oppinion sir that you chose to read into the mail exactly what you wished. I also find your remark offensive and desire an apology. No one ever mentioned they are not capable YOU DID THAT I said they were not in hurry and this remark referred to the geneology part of Ireland no other industry ........once again sir you have chosen to see the mail as you desired not as it was written. I never mentioned there abilities in the world of high tech you sir have brought that subject up as I see it as having nothing to do with the mail I sent. And while you may have acess to everything that is modern quick and wonderful to do your gene search with. So do I in my part of the world and also in the other part of the world that I belong to sir.........as Irish as I am and Irish I am .........you sir have bordered on being out of line here and I feel that an apology for your remarks are called for ....... YOUR QUOTE NOT MINE If that attitude is encountered, then a > backside deserves to be kicked and you do this by complaining LOUDLY at > senior management or government minister level, not by sitting meekly back > and waiting for up to year during which time your money is accruing interest > in their accounts. so its kicking your into ......not a nice thing to do in public a carefully written letter to the heads of places I agree with ........but a loudly complaining stranger I am sure he will get it all solved in five minutes ........ Cara _Links The more I explain the harder it is to understand my fellow man so why try?

    3. An apology for telling the truth? You are the one who should be making the apologies for perpetuating and stereotyping the Irish people as a happy-go-lucky bunch incapable of efficient administration. In your Ireland do they still ride around on donkeys and live in thatched cottages? That Ireland doesn't exist, no more than the Welsh side of my family sing as they walk home from the pit with lamps on their helmets! But the fact remains that the Irish genealogical 'industry' needs a real shake up. THAT'S the point I was making. 3. > An apology for telling the truth? Yes truth is when you tell it as it should be to accuse someone of being border line racist is not the norm is it? The truth as you wrote it was to advertise what a man is capable of not doing think and read what was written in the context of how it was written You are the one who should be making the > apologies I never accused you of being border line racist did I ? If I did then kindly show me the mail.......... for perpetuating and stereotyping the Irish people as a > happy-go-lucky bunch incapable of efficient administration. When it comes down to the sad sorry fact of geneology this is a fact you cant go past that they dont give an apple about it all they cant see what the fuss is about ............take a look at the mails that have come down this week every one of them a complaint about how it should or shouldnt be done .........and now this mail is your way of seeing what was written as it was intended just another point that you are incappable of seing what was written as it was written > In your Ireland do they still ride around on donkeys and live in thatched > cottages? Your thoughts not mine but the the thatched cottages do still exist in parts of Ireland and so do the donkeys perhaps you should lighten up and visit one and relax.......even visit the donkey farms that exist .........not all things have been passed over for the high tech Ireland you work in . That Ireland doesn't exist, ............well very well then if that is what you think then this Ireland no longer exists but only wher you have been try looking for it sir it still exists all beit not enough anymore. Welsh side of my > family sing as they walk home from the pit with lamps on their helmets! Unfortuantely so did mine I hope that for there sakes that there lights shone wonderfully bright as yours isnt right now. > But the fact remains that the Irish genealogical 'industry' needs a real > shake up. I wont dispute this part of your course of words but the fact remains the way you wanted to do it wont work LOUD/ also KICKING thats not the way to do it IS IT? > THAT'S the point I was making. > Bryan Morgan Your point could have been made with the simple statement you just made not a tirade at whether I am border line racist or not ...........would you enjoy me calling you that no I dont think so and I still think you are out of line Mr Morgan but As I am of the oppinion that no matter what anyone would or could say to you now you have your helmet in a twist and that is that ........ I have taken you point aboard and offer you the challenge seeing as you are in and out of Irelan in 35 minutes to go see the necessary people and solve the problem Cheers Cara > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Cara_Links" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, July 06, 2002 3:40 AM > Subject: Re: [MEATH] Attention Mr Morgan you are out of line > > > > Sir, > > I would have like to challenged you down the web but you of course no that > > it would cause a falme (a "falme?") > > > > > > ==== IRL-MEATH Mailing List ==== > Visit The Roscommon Database for uncommon records: > http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlros/ >
