    1. [MEATH] Kilskeer/Kilskyre
    2. My grandmother Mary Farrelly was born in the townland of Lisnagon, Civil Parish of Kilskeer (Kilskyre) and in the Catholic Parish of Kilskeer. (The Civil Parish and the Catholic Parish cover similar territory but are not totally identical from what I can determine from maps). She was married in one of the Catholic Churches in the Catholic Parish of Kilskeer which happened to be in the town or townland of Kilskeer. This particular church does have a Saint's name ie. St. Alphonsus Liguori but from my limited experience, the churches in Ireland are referred to by the town or townland name. The church opened for worship in 1853. There had been two previous church structures there. I have part of the Meath ordance survey six inch sheet (one inch to a mile ) which indicates the Roman Catholic Church of Kilskeer and other nearly Catholic Churches. The Meath Heritage Center presented me with the marriage of my gr. gr.parents in 1851 and the Baptism of the 6 children plus sponsors. This data included the townland. I put a letter in the Meath Chronicle and my second cousin contacted me. I have been to the Kilskeer Church and to the nearby cemetery in Castlekeeran where my relatives are buried. My great grandmother Ellen Smyth was born in nearby Seymourstown. Other townlands in my family history are Derver and Deerspark. Geraldine

    2. Hi, The info, I e-mailed you, is telling you the townland of Kilskeer is in the Parish of Kilskeer, which is in Co. Meath. You would have to find a map & look it up. I just wanted to bring it to your attention that there is a townland & a parish with the same name. Townland Acres County Barony Civil Parish PLU Province Kilskeer   1,590 Meath Upper Kells Kilskeer Kells Leinster You may want to purchase, the paper back book -- "a new genealogical atlas of Ireland," by Brian Mitchell. This will help you understand what a province, county, civil parish, barony, probate district, diocese & Poor Law Unions are. This is just a little example: US IRELAND state = county county = civil parish city, town = town, townland Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) In a message dated 7/1/2 7:11:02 PM, [email protected] writes: << Where is the Parish in comparision to the village/town of Kilskeer? >>

My ggrandfathers parents names were Philip Callaghan& Anne Sheridan. He was born in June 1858, but Ireland only started keeping civil records since 1864. He had a sister named Margaret born in 1871. Someone was kind enough to send me that information. Eileen, ps Thank you for answering my request

    3. Well I am not sure. The information was taken off a census record. I would think she would have told them the town. My great grandmother made a not that Bridget came from a small village near Dublin. Bridget was her mother in law. Bridget got married in Iowa and she married under Tully to her husband who was a Rinearson. Where is the Parish in comparision to the village/town of Kilskeer? 3. No, I don't know what's correct. I see what you mean, on the Meath site. I just checked another resource, http://www.seanruad.com/cgi-bin/iresrch. It has ...eer, as well. I confirmed the "Ballinlough" location on the maps I sent you. Clearly it's adjacent to ...eer on the map, so they're the same place. It sounds like you sent a letter. It'll get to the right place, with either spelling. It's odd, though, but probably because you, or I, are unaware of some historical issue surrounding the name. The Welsh use "y" often, for example.
