Cara, three points. 1. I'm known to the world as Bryan. (Mr. Morgan? Who's he?) 2. >>"But one question I have for Mr Morgan if the Kings did not play well with >>the Kings next door, ( quote from your email) "so he and his kindom was >>ousted" what is a kindom.........his family or his ???" I didn't write that - nothing to do with me! It's a signature file generated by the list owner... 3. >>"Cheey Cara" Er - what's a 'Cheey'? Hello I have following all Meath information on this web site. I certainly appreciate all the information as my ancestors came from that area. I am interested in the Askin family, Booker, & all related to them. I have a George Askin md to Ann, John Askin md to Hannah Booker, & Eleazer Askin ( ggrandad) md to Chalrotte Elizabeth Warren. The family was at Athboy & Oldcastle. Would dearly love to see the pictures from these areas, Unfortunately I do not seem to be able to download from your site? What can I do? I am pleased with everyone's efforts to make this a super site. Keep up the good work, it is really welcome. Ivah Clarke in Canada
Dear Ivah, I can't answer you but hopefully some one can, both groups of pictures are linked to the main page below- and are coming up fine for me...It may still be that rootsweb are working on their servers. http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlmea2/b/meath.htm Betty PS- I added your Askin information to the surname page ----- Original Message ----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: July 12, 2002 8:57 AM Subject: Re: [MEATH] Photos of Oldcastle and other trivia Hello I have following all Meath information on this web site. From Bryan in Wales... My sincere thanks for the kind appreciation received from so many of you for the pictures of Oldcastle. My modem is now in a bucket of water cooling off. On my next visit I will do a similar job on other places in the area. I would have done this time but it rained. Oh how it rained... It's the worst summer in living memory over there and farmers unable to make hay or silage are seriously concerned about how they are to feed their livestock this winter. Cara says the cars were "modern" - you bet they were. Ireland has severe laws that prevent unsafe "Old Bangers" from taking to the road. The vehicle insurance is sky high, easily being in the region of £700 ($980) for a year's BASIC insurance for a small compact. Add to that an annual 'road tax' of £400 ($560) and motoring in Ireland becomes an expensive business. Yet being so rural, you have to have a car or you don't get to get anywhere. Yes there is a limited bus service from Oldcastle to Kells, Navan etc, but what happens when you live eight miles from the bus stop? Incidentally you can tell the age and place of registration of an Irish car by its number plate. Just visible in the last of my photos is a car number plate that starts with '01 CN', which means it's a 2001 model registered in Cavan. Now a bit for Eileen: The ancient Celtic "Cross of Kells" always used to stand at the crossroads in the centre of the town. Recently this centuries old monument was hit by a bus and very nearly destroyed. Thankfully it has been restored and moved to a safe place on a plinth outside the old courthouse where it is also under a nicely designed perspex canopy to prevent further weather erosion, and a panel describing its history. You can read the Irish Times newspaper report at http://www.ireland.com/newspaper/ireland/2001/0327/hom15.htm iechydd da/slainte Bryan

Sorry to have to run, but its not a soft day here, we are having snow and I have to get the 4WD out to get the children from where they are stranded, on the other side of the river, marvelous things these pieces of modern equiptment. Oh and I have to get the turf in and drying, and get the husbands meal and take it to the back of the Nullabor and all by midday and its gone 9.30 am already and gee thats all on a digital clock. > Its wonderful to have a critic on the web site Who ME? Love you Cara - it's a beautiful Welsh name too. My eldest G/daughter is Cara (aged 14 and would prefer to be ignored if encountered in the street. Otherwise it's not 'cool') Bye Bry ----- Original Message ----- From: "Cara_Links" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, July 10, 2002 12:14 AM Subject: Re: [MEATH]McDemotts and a soft day > - > > Eileen, > > Its wonderful to have a critic on the web site, his humour is quite a lift > wouldnt you say, even if its "droll" yes we have meals on wheels in > Australia, and you are welcome to the McDermott data, ..........and would > you like a look up on the Index of Wills also there may be some on there > for you.... > > Sorry to have to run, but its not a soft day here, we are having snow and I > have to get the 4WD out to get the children from where they are stranded, > on the other side of the river, marvelous things these pieces of modern > equiptment. > > Oh and I have to get the turf in and drying, and get the husbands meal and > take it to the back of the Nullabor and all by midday and its gone 9.30 am > already and gee thats all on a digital clock. > > Bye Eileen > > > > > > > > > > ---- Original Message ----- > From: <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Tuesday, July 09, 2002 10:27 PM > Subject: Re: [MEATH] Mcdermott Family/laptops/ and turf > > > > > > > > Hi > > > > Thank you for your help. Interesting history was centered there, like for example, Meath was a Province of Ireland, but the King didn't play well with the Kings next door, so he and his kindom was ousted. >
>>It is so hot here today. Heavens Eileen - where in the world are YOU?!!! It's rained non-stop so hard in Oldcastle that my brother-in-law's 4 wheel drive 8 litre tractor was being used to pull other farmer's tractors out of their fields and the cattle were sinking up to their knees in the fields. No I'm not exaggerating. Now I REALLY know what a "soft day" is! Hi Bryan, I live in Phila. Pa. I was in the 90's today. My ggrandparents were both from meath my ggrandfather was from Killskeer or Kilskyre not sure of the spelling. My ggrandmother was from Kells. I would love to visit Ireland heard it's the most beautiful place. Everyone I know that's been there loves it. Thank You for your help. Everyone here has been so kind. Take Care, Eileen
Hi, I would very much appreciate the Mcdermott information. The snow sounds so good to me cause it's in the 90's here. And i am a cold weather person. I hope your kids didn't have to wait to long in the snow. Thank you for your help. As i said my ggrandmother was 1 of 16 kids. How do you go about looking at old wills? My mother also said she thought her grandmother Jane Mcdermott had told her some Mcdermott's went to S. Africa, but she could'nt be absolutley positive about that. My mother passed 18 years ago so i don't have anyone to confirm that. Take Care, Stay Warm Eileen
