Barbara at [email protected] writes: << I can easily find Castletown, Navan, etc. but no Grange. >> Barbara, I can't comment on whether or not the records from Grange townland are on film, but I can locate Grange just one mile west of Castletown. It's right at the SW corner of the intersection of the N 52 national road and the R 162 regional road, about 3 miles south of Nobber town. It would appear that Grange is in the same ED as Castletown. I'm looking for the family of MICHAEL TALLENT he was born in BOYLE, ROSCOMMON in the 1840's or 1850's. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you! Eileen
I am searching for the families of Alice PIERCE and William LYNCH. They had a daughter Annie born May 1, 1836 and a son Martin James LYNCH born April 15, 1838 in Navon. Within two years of Marin's birth the family sailed for America. I don't know what ship or what port they left from. In 1850 they are in the town of Paris, county of Oneida in New York. At that time they daughters Mary, Catherine, Rose, and a son John Pierce. Do any of these names fit with someone on this list? Thank you for any help or suggestions as to where to search next. Jacqueline
I'm trying to find MATTHEW MCDERMOTT, he was my gggrandfather. He was married in KELLS, MEATH in 1857. I'm hoping he was born somewhere in Co. Meath. Probably in the 1830's or 1840's. He was married to my gggrandmother BRIDGET TULLY. Maybe he was born in surrounding Co.Matthew and Bridget had 16 children. Is it possible to get a date of death for BRIDGET MCDERMOTT I know she had her last child in 1882. They lived in St. Columcille's parish in KELLS, MEATH.
I need some help from some of you experts out there! My ancestors are from the townland of Grange, County Meath. (RC Parish of Castletown-Kilpatrick, Civil Parish of Kilshine, Barony of Morgallion, PLU of Navan) I just spent almost three hours at my local FHL, looking line by line through the 1901 and 19011 censuses for my people. I cannot even find the town of Grange. I can easily find Castletown, Navan, etc. but no Grange. Is it possible that Grange was not microfilmed? Or am I looking in the wrong place? What ED is Grange? Does anybody know? I hope someone can help me !!!! Thanks in advance. Barbara :-)

I apologies to those who receive more than one copy of this announcement. Greetings Listers Established IGP counties of Meath and Westmeath are available for adoption by an experienced County or Special Projects Coordinator. They can be adopted separately, but they have so much in common, with common sources of records and repositories, that one County Coordinator should administer both sites. The volunteer should live in the county, in Ireland or the UK, or at least had ancestors who lived in the county. That will give you a genealogical interest in the websites. For genealogists who are also interested in Ireland history, the Counties of Meath and Westmeath once composed the ancient Province and Kingdom of Meath. Some may recall that the King of Meath didn't play well with his neighbors, so his Kingdom was eventually absorbed by the Kingdoms of Leinster and Ulster. There is much bloody history there and records enough to keep one busy transcribing for years. To visit the counties: Meath http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlmea2/ Westmeath http://www.rootsweb.com/~irlwem2/ If interested, visit http://irelandgenealogyprojects.rootsweb.com/ and follow the instructions. Hi List, Has anyone got any connection of info on these families from the Oldcastle area ?? if so please get in touch. TIA. Carol.
Dear Jo, The 'gaygans' you ask about are probably from the clan Geoghegan (pronounced the same!) or MacGeoghegan, whose ancient realm was mostly around the present county of Westmeath. I think they are fairly well documented in books on Irish surnames. Rgds. John Goggins
My ggrandfather, Michael Rourke (O'Rourke, Rorke, Roark, Etc.-not sure which) was born in Ireland in 1825 & married an Alice Vieches (or Veche) in Kells, Co. Meath around 1845-46. Believe he had a brother, James, who married a Mary Vieches. Michael came to America around 1847-48 & settled in Phila. He died at the age of 27. Only 2 children survived him, both born in Philadelphia, PA. He was Catholic. Anything sound at all familiar? Peace., Eileen
