Meath was once part of a Kingdom of Mide, and the "d" sound still seems to apply. The Irish have always had a complex relationship with the "th" sound of English (just listen to Bertie Ahern say "thing"). Pete Schermerhorn, in the glorious Berkshire hills of western Massachusetts
I believe "Meade" is "Meath" with an Irish brogue. On my William LIGHTHOLDER's citizenship papers in Saratoga Co., NY, 1852, the very same word appears, and the LIGHTHOLDERs are from County Meath and Westmeath only. I imagine the official wrote down what he heard. Linda Lightholder Kmiecik
What are the attachments that come along this list ever so often? Rootsweb doesn't send attachments so I am wondering how this happens. BlankI am looking for any information on Mary Jane McDermott who was born in County Meath in 1854. Her father's name was Thomas M. McDermott. He was born in Meade, Ireland. Her mother's name was Catherine (Coogan) McDermott. She was born in Meade, Ireland. Where is Meade? Is it in County Meath? Thanks! Sue-Ellen --- [This E-mail was scanned for viruses at tqci.net]

Question: What does "normally open to members" mean. As a member of the Church, I am not aware that there is a separate section for church members, and it has never been a paid site to my knowledge. Any more information on this would be most helpful to me, if in fact, there is another section for LDS members. Dear Agnes, As I've told some list before, John Bruton, a former Prime Minister of Ireland, lives and farms in Dunboyne, Co. Meath (Leinster Province). I would imagine there is a good chance he is related to your Brutons from this area. You could write to him c/o Leinster House, Kildare Street, Dublin 4, Ireland. Regards, John Goggins
