    1. [MEATH] Bishop Lewis Jones 1550>Michael, Henry, Theophilus, Ambrose
    2. cordy1
    3. Would be most grateful for any info on this Jones family in Susan Miles (Ursula Wyllie Roberts) Memoirs of a Soldier's Daughter: Father was in the direct line of descent from Henry, Bishop of Meath and Clogher, whose brother, Ambrose, was Bishop of Killala in County Mayo, and whose father, Lewis Jones, was made a Fellow of All Souls College, Oxford in 1568, when he was eighteen, and later became Bishop of Killaloe in County Clare. I find the family tree at this point a little bit suggestive of the Bab Ballads. I have no clue as to why these far-off Jones's found themselves in Ireland. General Michael Jones, the eldest brother of Father's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather, became Governor of Chester and Dublin and married Dame Mary Culme, who was presumably an Irishwoman. The youngest brother, Sir Theophilus Jones, became Scoutmaster General of the Forces in Ireland. Thanks, Bob Foran - Connecticut USA

    1. [MEATH] The Irish Connection - GREER - GRIERSON - GRIER book.
    2. Alan ......................
    3. Hello: I have a book that I have recently completed (completed for the most part) of mostly Griersons, many Greers and a few Griers. I am offering it to anyone who is a Grierson, Grier, Greer researcher. It has all indexes from 1790 - 2000 for persons by the surname of M'Gregor, Grierson, Grier, Greer. There are a number of interesting articles on the McGregors, Grierson, Greggs, Griers, Greers. There is no charge for the book if you are a McGregor researcher and are interested in these branches of genealogy. I would be grateful for any followups! The book is well resourced - done at the BISHOP STREET ARCHIVES, The National Library of Ireland, Laracor Cemetery, Mount Jerome Cemetery, and other places near Dublin. Best wishes, David Grierson _________________________________________________________________ MSN Instant Messenger now available on Australian mobile phones. Go to http://ninemsn.com.au/mobilecentral/hotmail_messenger.asp

    3. While it's extremely kind of people to guide us to sources of records, would it be too much to ask that the nations to which these sources refer be identified? The URL below is an American source - not much use to other nationalities, but nowhere is this indicated - and we old fools in the UK paying for internet access by the second have to make every second count! No criticism - just asking a favour :-) Bryn in Wales ===================================== Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/JRB.2ACE/1171 Message Board Post: The National Archives and Records Administration has placed on the Internet a list of military casualties which occurred during World War II. 1. [MEATH] From Co. Meath to New Orleans in the 1850s
    2. Hi Listers, I am subscribing temporarily to suggest to everyone that they pay a visit to the New Orleans, Louisiana rootswb site at: <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans.htm">Orleans Parish Archives</A> <A HREF="ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chajan51.txt">http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans.htm</A> I am one of the coordinators of the site and have been transcribing the admission records to the public hospital there (called Charity Hospital even today) for the 1850s.  New Orleans was one of the major ports for immigration in the 1850s, so that amny people from Ireland settled in New Orleans or else passed through the city on the way to points further north such as St. Louis, Cincinnati, and parts of Iowa and Tennessee.  Not only I am transcribing the admission for certain surnames, I have recently begun to do the records from 1851.  I am finished with January and February so far - a total of 3400 names or so. In doing this, I came across an individual from Co. Meath, and decided to temporariliy join your list and post his name, in hopes that someone can connect with him.  The columns are:  Date of Admission, Date of Death, Date of Discharge, Hospital Ward, Name, Occupation, Place of Birth, Age (in Jan or Feb 1851) 1-Jan -- 14-Jan 18 James Barry Boatsman Meath Co., Ireland 29 2-Jan -- 14-Jan 36 Catherine McEntee - Meath Co., Ireland 18 2-Jan -- 8-Jan 14 John Dunn Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 23 2-Jan -- 6-Jan 25 Michael Riley Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 48 2-Jan -- 8-Jan 12 Thomas Dary Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 35 3-Jan -- 10-Jan 29 Barney Hogan Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 21 4-Jan -- 7-Jan 11 John Boylan Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 21 6-Jan -- 19-Mar 36 Mary Riley born Goodwynn Meath Co., Ireland 35 10-Jan -- 11-Jan 6 John Macarthy Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 40 11-Jan -- 22-Jan 38 Mary Riley born Farrell Meath Co., Ireland 26 13-Jan -- 15-Mar 12 Frances Fay Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 25 13-Jan -- 27-Jan 28 Owen Clark Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 19 15-Jan -- 18-Jan 35 Judith Brackin Meath Co., Ireland 20 16-Jan -- 21-Jan 37 Mary Fitzimmons Meath Co., Ireland 18 16-Jan -- 28-Jan 23 Owen McEnroe Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 18 17-Jan -- 20-Jan 16 James Kelly Carpenter Meath Co., Ireland 25 18-Jan -- 27-Jan 22 James Brady Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 20 18-Jan 20-Jan -- 29 Thomas Riley Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 23 20-Jan -- 19-Feb 19 James Gogan Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 30 22-Jan -- 6-Feb 34 Mary Carroll Meath Co., Ireland 26 27-Jan -- 30-Jan 11 Thomas Daily Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 32 29-Jan -- 19-Mar 34 Ellen Smith Meath Co., Ireland 17 30-Jan -- 1-May 36 Ann Walker Meath Co., Ireland 21 30-Jan -- 28-Feb 35 Ellen Goff born Moony or Morny Meath Co., Ireland 30 30-Jan -- 1-Feb 19 John Brackin Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 42 31-Jan 14-Feb -- 21 James Brady Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 20 31-Jan -- 16-Mar 24 Myles Swift Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 22 4-Feb -- 11-Feb 23 Andrew Garrigan Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 28 5-Feb 10-Feb -- 21 Myles Mathews Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 23 6-Feb 7-Feb -- 10 James Flynn Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 30* 6-Feb -- 10-Feb 14 Thomas Tormey Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 22 9-Feb -- 16-Mar 24 Nicholas Brady Meath Co., Ireland 31 10-Feb -- 22-Feb 6 John Monaghan Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 35 11-Feb -- 11-Feb 9 Joseph Harlan Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 25 11-Feb 25-Feb -- 30 Richard Carpenter Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 36 12-Feb -- 24-Apr 35 Mary Rourke born Dunnigan Meath Co., Ireland 25 13-Feb -- 2-Mar 30 Joseph Harlum Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 24 14-Feb -- 8-Feb 36 Margaret Barrett Meath Co., Ireland 22 14-Feb -- 5-Mar 37 Mary Fitz Simmons Meath Co., Ireland 20 16-Feb -- 16-Feb 14 Thos Tormey Meath Co., Ireland 22 19-Feb -- 25-Nov 4 Thomas Farrell Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 22 21-Feb -- 24-Feb 7 Thomas Gilson Boatsman Meath Co., Ireland 28 21-Feb -- 21-Feb 22 Thomas Langtree Shoe Maker Meath Co., Ireland 21 25-Feb -- 20-Mar 23 John Monaghan Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 35 26-Feb -- 1-Mar 34 Margaret Dolan Meath Co., Ireland 50 28-Feb -- 7-Mar 31 James Kalaher Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 22 28-Feb -- -- John Campbell Laborer Meath Co., Ireland 31 The info here represents only part of each record.  The full entry gives the following information: Date of Admission Date of Death     When Discharged Ward Name of Person        Occupation        Place of Birth Age Last Place From How Long in New Orleans Marital Status Long Sick Disease Hr of Admission        Remarks If you recognizae anyone on this list, please check our web site.  The URLs for these January and February hospital records are: <A HREF="ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chajan51.txt">ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chajan51.txt</A> <A HREF="ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chafeb51.txt">ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chafeb51.txt</A> Even if you do not connect to any of these names, you might want to visit our site anyway, as we have posted hundreds of thousands of vital records, immigration records, complete city directories listed by name and then separately by address (1811, 1822, 1832, 1842, and 1851), American Civil War draft records, lists of victims of various yellow fever epidemics, cemetery records, and tens of thousands of obits. I am joining various rootsweb lists for the various birthplaces I find in the admission records and suggesting people researching that location visit our site.  On occasion, I have been contacted by someone who has been able to find their long lost relatives thanks to my postings like this. I am not going to stay on the list, however if you have any questions, please contact me at [email protected] I can'[t guarantee I can answer all inquiries, but I will do my best.
