    3. I would be interested in any Daltons or McGoverns you might come accross, My 3rd g-grandfather, John J. Dalton was born in Meath County (I believe in the parish of Darmstown) abt 1787, the son of Peter Dalton and Nancy Nulty or Naulty. He married Mary McGovern, daughter of Peter McGovern and Mary Casey in 1818 and came to America about the age of 18 and settleed originally in New York and later moved to Wyocena, Wisconsin. Mary McGovern was born about 1797 in Ongentown. Any help you can give me on any of these names would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again. 3. Mark, you might try working from the most recent event in her life and working back. You might try to find an obituary, or a citizenship application, or census records here in the United States. The 1880 census is available on-line at lds.org and is available to everyone You might also try census records before and after that date. However, the 1890 census was almost completely destroyed by a fire. Most Family History Centers would have a microfilm copy of the census available by ordering from the main Family History Center in Salt Lake City for a nominal fee. There is a list of Family History Centers available at lds.org also. They are open to the public. Also, a marrage record may or may not tell you something. I hope this will be of some help to you. 3. Yes Owens is a good old protestant name! The only Owens I know was the Revd Owens, one time vicar of Oldcastle and Loughcrew, who became the Bishop of Killaloo (I think that's where it was). This was in the 1950s. 2. Hi Nancy Thank you so much for all this valuable information you have given me. It has put lots of things in perspective. I am trying to build up a dossier on researching in Co Meath so your e-mail will definately form part of it. I have found some info from the internet but I have yet to try the National Library site. I am especially seeking Army records. My James Cooke Nugent was in the army for over 17years in total and reached the rank of Sergeant before he was discharged due to his Rheumatism. He was discharged in 1800 as a Chelsea pensioner in Chatham in Kent which is probably why he ended his days in London rather than in Ireland. I believe he may have married once he left the army rather than before because his children were not born until c 1810. I still have to find their baptism as they are not on the IGI. many regards MOIRA
