    3. In my experience, for what it is worth, persons born in Ireland normally mean the townland. The only time that most people reference civil parishes is if they are talking about official records. 3. My mother, Marie Gaughran, was born in Trim, County Meath. We have family records going back to her grandfather but not beyond that. In the recent post, included below with this note, I could not help but noticing several similar names: Geohegan, GALOGHAN, GEOGHN, GAHOGAN. Does anyone have any info on how these names go together (if at all)? Here is the way my direct Gaughran line goes: Bernard Gaughran, b abt 1877, d 23 May 1928 Bernard Gaughran, b abt 1848, d. 1898 Both Bernards lived their lives in Meath in or not far from Trim. 1. [MEATH] Surnames found in LDS film 1565480-Navan Bd. minutes
    2. Diane
    3. I recently viewed the LDS film1565480, "Minutes of the Meetings of the Board of Guardians of the Poor-Navan" and found the following list of surnames. This is not a complete list - it is just some of the names in the book, so if a surname is not found on this list, it does not mean that it is not on the film. Most of the surnames mentioned in the film are the names of Board members. Some are vendors from whom the Board purchased clothing, supplies and services. The list was created in MS Excel software and converted to HTML so that I could paste it in this message. For some readers, this may cause the list to become unreadable, or scrambled. If someone sees a surname and is unable to read the entry, please contact me and I will e-mail you separately. 3. I am looking for information on the Gillick family in Co Meath. Terrence Gillick born abt. 1837, Julia abt. 1820, and at least one other brother Owen. Parents possibly Charles and Mary. I would like to find where this family came from in Co. Meath. The Meath Heritage Centre has been unable to locate them and I've been unable to make any Internet contacts. One cousin seems to think they may have come from Oldcastle, but has no proof. All avenues in the US have been pursued and have not provided any clues. Terrence married Margaret Ann McGhee in California and died in Volcano, California. Any information greatly appreciated. Sandy California

    1. [MEATH] Co. Meath to New Orleans in the 1850s - Online Public Hospital Records
    2. Hi Listers, In the past, I have written to the Co. Meath list to tell everyone about the public hospital records on the New Orleans (Orleans Parish) rootsweb site.  I am joining the list again temporarily to remind you that I have just finished May and June.  New Orleans was one of the major ports in the US in the 1850's, and many immigrants found their way to the public hospital when they were sick because they were poor and could not afford to pay for their medical care.  There were patients admitted to the hospital from all over the world.  Even if your ancestors wound in areas further up the Mississippi River, or along the Missouri or Ohio Rivers, you should check the New Orleans site, since many people arrived in New Orleans only to stay a short time and make their way to Kentucky, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri and other parts of the midwest. If you have missed my past announcements regarding earlier months of 1851, you might want to check all the names Janurary through June (and now part of July) yourself on the following web site: <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans/charity.htm">Charity Hospital Records Orleans Parish Archives - LAGENWEB - USGENWEB</A> or <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans/charity.htm">http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans/charity.htm</A> The URL of the Orelans Parish (New Orleans) rootsweb home page is: <A HREF="http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans.htm">http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/la/orleans.htm</A> Here are the some names of patients from Co. We are very proud of our site - besides these hospital records, we also have posted all the birth, marriage, and death indexes for New Orleans stored at the State Archives in Baton Rouge.  The births cover 1796 - 1901 (the last year possible), the the deaths cover 1804 - 1906 (with more being added daily through 1915), and the marriages cover (1870 - 1905).  We also have complete city directories by name and by address (1805, 1811, 1822, 1832, 1842, and 1851 - 1851 by name only), Civil War draft records that appear in the local papers in the Spring 1865, cemetery records, insane asylum records, tens of thousans of obits and much more.
