Hi, I am trying to find any history on my GGGrandmother Anna Elizabeth Coyle. I have seen the two first names reversed and variant spellings such as Ann, Anne and Liza or Eliza. According to an obit that I have she was born in Oldcastle, County Meath in 19 Dec 1835. I have a birth and baptismal certificate dated 19 Feb 1980 from a Rev. Joseph Dermody, P.P., that sows an Anne Coyle born 31 Dec 1832 in Oldcastle that may be the same person. The parents are listed as Thomas Coyle and Bridget McCabe and the sponsors are Patrick Coyle and Anne Fox, there is also a marriage certificate for Thomas and Bridget showing a 3 July 1826 marriage, with witnesses Mary Connoly and Mary Fagan. Anna Coyle married Arthur James Grover in London, England in 1852. They moved to New York in 1858 and later to Champaign County, Illinois, ending up in Appanoose County, Iowa Any information or leads that anyone might have would be greatly appreciated. Thank you Mark Weaver Carson City, NV

Hello, I noticed you testing the list so thought I would send a message. I am researching in the Meath area. My ancestors are from Navan in County Meath. Their surname was Darcy or D'Arcy or Darceyor D'Arcey or Durcy. Christian names were Jeremiah, Patrick, Thomas, James, william and Francis as well as John. Farming was their occupation in the late 1700's Any connection with these people would be a great help. Mary from Perth Western Australia
I'm looking for information relating to a Margaret Pekin/Pecon born in Moy Summerhill Co Meath about 1818. Her parents were Margaret Higgins and James Pekin/Pecon. At some time, either in Meath or in England, in the 1840/50's married a Robert Banham and moved to Etherley Co Durham. I have the Higgins family tree as written by Luis Bendezu II available from Rootsweb but this doesn't give information on Margaret other than her immediate family. If you have this lady or any of her siblings in your tree I would like to hear from you. Sandra
Carol, It has been a bit quiet... unlike the Louth list the last week or so, where there has been something of a roll call going on (and I have been lucky enough to glean some new info in the process). Maybe this would not be a bad idea next door in Meath? My Meath interests: 1. Simon OWENS of Julianstown b. c1770 Christina MCGOUGH b. c1775 Dublin? marr 28 Apr 1796 St Marys Dublin 2. Simon OWENS (in Griffiths Valuation for Julianstown) 2. Edward OWENS b. c1800 Julianstown? Sarah COULTER b. c1812 Dundalk Louth marr 24 Feb 1838 Julianstown? (other children not found yet) Edward & Sarah were probably married in Julianstown or perhaps in Drogheda, Louth; the marriage reported in Drogheda Conservative Journal, in any case. They lived in Louth where most of their children were born, until they emigrated to Australia in 1862-3. I'm interested in any other OWENS in Julianstown and environs as I'm finding it hard to connect various references together. I have a memorial card for WINIFRED BRENNAN who died 28 March 1896 at the age of 85, giving her a birth year of 1811. Under her name is the word "MOYRATH", which is a town in the Parish of Kildalkey, Co. Meath. The GRO has no record of her death. I also have info about a JAMES BRENNAN and WINIFRED BRENNAN and their three children, Margaret, James and Thomas, born in the 1840-50's. I don't know if they are the same Winifreds. Is anyone familiar with this data? I would appreciate hearing from you. Joe Mansfield

Hi Listers, I am joining the list again temporarily to tell you that I have completed the admission records for the public hospital (Charity Hospital) for the months of July and August 1851 in New Orleans. As I have told the list on previous occasions, New Orleans was one of the largest points of entry for the Irish into the United States. Because of its location on the Mississippi River, the Irish who came to the US through the Port of New Orleans had access to cities further upriver, and cities on the Ohio and Missouri Rivers, such as St. Louis, Cincinnati, and Louisville. The public hospital admissions were mainly Irish who could not afford to pay for private medical care. July and August were especially bad. At that time, New Orleans was little more than a large swamp, and the summer months with all the rain an humidity were ideal for breeding mosquitos which carried many types of diseases. In fact, many of the Irish were imported to New Orleans in the mid 1800s to drain the swamps to provide more habitable land. A slave was worth money, so the worthless Irish were used by the thousans instead. Many worked digging drainage canals filled with mosquitos - some were buried into the walls of the canals right where they dropped dead. In the past, I have posted the names of the patients from this county on this list, just in case anyone sees someone they recognize. In my opinion, these hospital lists are some of the most uner-appreciate sources of genealogical information there are. If you see someone on the list you'd like to know more about, please visit the web sites for July and August 1851 on the Orleans Parish (New Orleans) rootsweb site at: ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chajul51.txt and ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/la/orleans/charityhos/chaaug51.txt If these links stretch over two lines, you will have to type them into your browser by hand.
