Their Irish Civil records can be obtained from the County Roscommon GRO on line. GOOGLE it. You will see on the far RT Tool bar Births. Go there. Cost and instructions on obtaining them with correct form to use also. If you use them, a credit card can be used. If you go through the Record Office in Castlebar County Mayo, you cannot. Since you live in the UK, take a trip over on holiday to Mayo. The 1901 and 1911 census are on line, you might check out data there. Griffith's Valuation for Mayo was 1858. Since you know the townland,check that out. Also, GOOGLE the townland and see if you can find the church of your ancestors denomination. Post a letter requesting sacramental information; include a donation. Check out Familysearch.org That site has Irish records. You might find the data which will help you get civil records.
