Through the years following the War, even into the 20th century, widows & vets applied for pensions. The long form of the the pension application is full of data re: the vet. I would suggest you get it. I know the 3 we have from my husband's grandfather & great uncles are very imformative. Can't recall where we applied & received them but check with the National Archives, they have a web site. I am NOT referncing the index card one finds on Ancestry, it is a 4 page or more document.
