I am not the writer of the 2000 one but I may be able to explain how she had her info. In seeking her ancestor she checked Griffit's Valuation. It gave her the name of the landowner and probably her ancestor was a tenant on the O'DONNELL land. You too can check out your ancestor on Griffith's. Just GOOGLE Griffiths Valuation. Go to County Mayo and search. It was done in 1857 timeline. You can GOOGLE Jane O'DONNELL County Mayo Ireland. You might find out something. She could have been of Anglo Irish lines; may or maynot have been Catholic. Once you have the townland from GV and already have the landowner, you might GOOGLE the 1824 Tithe Applotments to see if anything is listed. You give no timeline for your ancestor. When did he emigrate? Confused as to whom you want to research, your CANAVAN ancestor or the O'DONNELL landowner?? O'DONNELL surname is in Mayo but is a great Donegal surname too.
