Annie Clarke was my grandmother and she emigrated to the U.S. at about that age. She lived in Philadelphia where she met my grandfather Michael McLaughlin (also an Irish immigrant) and they married in 1922 in Philadelphia). My father was Philip McLaughlin. Does any of this sound familiar? I never found my grandmother's citizenship application--but I found my grandfather's. I read that sometimes the wife didn't bother applying or that she would automatically become a citizen if the husband applied. But I'm not sure if that is true. Please let me know---I have family tree with some of these details and it should be public but I'll check to make sure. Nice to hear from you!
