I wish I could just give you my tree to do. :D You're right: Every generation of our American Barretts have had a firstborn Thomas or Edward. I'm certain Thomas's father was Edward (on marriage certif.), but no mother listed. This has been a challenge, and I'm so thankful you've given me these great leads.
