Yes I do recognise the road. Growing up we always refered to it as the Bog Road as it lead us to the bog. Ha ha. There is actually a spring/well a bit behind where your great uncle is stood, hiding in a hedge. Often while home as a child, the pump on our own spring would breakdown so we had to fill up lots of buckets there. If you put Knock Mayo ito Google maps and then tick terrain you can actually see the old names of the areas, except Ruane of course. Carrownamallaght is actually on the crossroad where your G. uncle was stood. While I was actually home last week I found my grandfathers medical card and it does state Ruane on the card as he was born and died there. We also call the hill, up the field behind our farm, Le Horn, not the right spelling I am sure but at least you will be able to pronounce it. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with as I still have lots of family in Knock. I have attached a photo of what I know as Ruane taken last week. I will spare you the one of the cows. Regards SS Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
