If Patrick was a tailor, there's a good chance he grew up in a town, rather than on a farm, in Co. Mayo. This is a long shot, but if I were you, I'd check the Griffith's index for Rushes who lived in towns and order the films for the corresponding RC parish records. Fortunately, the surname isn't terribly common.
