I didnt realize until today, in reviewing someone else's inquiry that you had asked me a question. My paternal grandmother was Margaret Mary Coyle, born November 1911 in Holyoke, daughter of John and Annie Mae (Lavelle) Coyle. Apparently these people went back and forth between Holyoke and Belmullet with alternating generations staying put and then relocating or sending their children to the other place. John and Annie Mae returned to Belmullet ca. 1912 and remained there until they died in the 1970s. John was a shoemaker, drummer and heavy drinker. They had three daughters and one son. The oldest daughter, Margaret, and the son, Sean, moved to western Mass in the late 1920s (her) and 1950s (him). He died from a brain tumor in the 1970s; she died in 1996 from complications of diabetes and dementia. She had told me that the Coyles were middlemen/retailers, sort of like travelling salespeople who were from Castlebar. John and his brother in law, Michael Lavelle, were IRA combatants in the Anglo-Irish War that followed WWI. There is a granddaughter, Marlene Gannon w! ho I think still lives on American Street in Belmullet, who would know much more than I was told. Margaret was estranged from her family and I am not sure how much of what I was told was accurate. I was in correspondence with Marlene in the mid 1990s then she stopped writing. Good luck.
