Author: gerrydwyer1 Surnames: Mulrooney Dwyer Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/3068.4.1.3.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Pat We are related I am 65 yrs old married and living in Livingston Scotland My gran was Catherine Dwyer (nee Mulrooney ) She had at least two sisters and two brothers and came from Bunree in Ballina I think her mothers maiden name was Hope One sister Bridget married a Shaw and her other sister (?) also maried a Shaw The two Shaws were brothers One of them was the Harbourmaster for the port of Ballina and lived in a tied house at the Quay in Ballina Catherine was a schoolteacher in Ballina, married soldier George Patrick Dwyer of Ballina in the 1890s who was one of 8 sons and 3 daughters of William Dwyer and Catherine McDade William got an award from Queen Victoria in 1901 for having 6 sons in the British Army ( you might have thought his wife should have got an award for having 11 kids) but there you go He was drowned in the bay in Jan 2001 shortly after receiving the commendation from the Queen Catherine and George eventually settled in Mossend in Scotland around 1900 and raised 6 kids, 4 girls and two boys one of whom was my dad George Dwyer b 1908 d 1958 Sadly his elder brother Billy b 1904 passed away in Canada on 29 May 2008 at the age of 104 He gave me much of the info above Hope this helps Regards Gerry Dwyer Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
