Birth records in Ireland were not required to be recorded until 1864.? Suggest you write to St. Mary's Church, The Quay, Westport, Co. Mayo for information on the births and marriage you reference.? I have gotten information by writing to them and making a donation for their time and effort.? Best of luck in your search. John WARD was born about 1802, and Mary/Maria about 1813, so their marriage would probably have taken place in the late 1830s. They emigrated to England about 1851. On the excellent "Irish Roots" website compiled by Pat Deese I can't see any Westport St.Mary's birth records going back to that period, neither can I see any Westport St.Mary's marriage records for the 1830s. Is that because the records haven't yet been transcribed and added to the website, or is it simply that such records don't exist? I'd like to know whether it's worth writing to the parish with a payment for a search of the records.
