    3. Hi Lorraine, Dates would be very helpful. When was Nora born? When did she marry Michael Flaherty? What's the name of the town or townland where Michael was born? When was he born? Any parents names? Did Nora marry in Ireland or the US? Do you have her parents names from her US records? 3. Hi Lorraine, If Michael Flaherty and Norah Ford married in the US their civil and church marriage record there may include Norah's parents names. The 1900 US census (online) will include the number of years they were married and when they emigrated to the US. You don't mention if their children were born in the US or in Ireland. The reference to Annaghdown as their birthplace in Co. Galway probably refers to the parish rather than to the townland itself. Annaghdown isn't really big enough to be called a village. It's more of a townland. See: http://www.tuam-guide.com/annaghdown.htm If you look at the Ireland Townland Database http://www.seanruad.com and search County Galway you'll see Annaghdown townland is about 700 acres. The west side of the parish is on Lough Corrib while the east side is near the road from Headford to Tuam and isn't on the Lough. The parish itself includes the following townlands: Addergoole, Annagh East, Annagh West, Annaghdown, Ardgaineen, Aucloggeen, Ballylee, Balrobuck Beg, Balrobuck More, Barranny, Barravilla, Baunmore, Biggera Beg, Biggera More, Bolinsheen, Bunatober, Bunnahevelly Beg, Bunnahevelly More Bunoghanaun,Caherlea,Cahermorris,Carheeny,Carraghy,Carrowbeg North, Carrowbeg South, Carrownrooaun, Cartron, Castlecreevy, Castlequarter, Cloonagh, Cloonboo, Cloonleenaun, Cluidrevagh, Corbally, Corrandrum, Corrandulla, Coteenty, Cregduff, Cregg, Drumbaun, Drumgriffin, Gardenham or Garrymore, Garrymore or Gardenham, Glebe, Glenrevagh, Gortroe, Grange, Illaunaneel, Illaunaneel West, Illaunaveetry, Kilcahill, Kilgill Lisheenanoran, Mace, Muckrush, Mullaghadrum, Nineacres Park, Rabbit Island, Racoona, Rinnaharney, Shanbally, Shankill, Slievefin, Tomnahulla Tonagarraun, Tonamace, Turloughgarve, Walsh's Island and Woodpark. The whole parish today has about 750 people so it's a very rural and sparsely inhabited area. Back when your ancestors were born was before the Famine (1845-50) and subsequent emigration so there were substantially more people then. Here's a link to a description of the parish in Lewis Topographical Dictionary in 1837 and you'll see then the population then was over 6,000 people. http://www.libraryireland.com/topog/a.php Annaghdown Parish records are available on microfilm on order through your nearest LDS Family History Centre in the US and you can search the parish records for the baptismal records for Nora and Michael. Here's a link to the information about Annaghdown parish with the years covered in the records and the LDS microfilm number: http://www.ireland.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Galway&CityCounty=East%20Galway&parish=Annaghdown&churchid=1041 You should be aware that the surnames Flaherty and Ford/e were very common ones so you may find many entries for events for both surnames. That doesn't necessarily mean all the entries are the same family. There was a property valuation done in Ireland to impose taxes called Griffiths Valuation and it was done in County Galway in 1855. That was after the Famine (1845-50) so isn't complete for all the people who were in the County before the Famine. It lists the following Ford/es and Flaherty entries in Annaghdown civil parish, these names were responsible for paying the rent: Surname First Name Townland Parish County Ford Michael Balrobuckmore Annaghdown Galway Ford Michael Barrany Annaghdown Galway Ford Michael Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Ford Michael Shankill Annaghdown Galway Ford Michael Balrobuckbeg Annaghdown Galway Ford Michael Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Ford Mary Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Ford Mary Tonamace Annaghdown Galway Ford Michael Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Ford Patrick Coteenty Annaghdown Galway Ford Patrick Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Ford William Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Ford William Muckrush Annaghdown Galway Ford William Shankill Annaghdown Galway Ford William Coteenty Annaghdown Galway Ford William Billybeg & Rabbitt Islands Annaghdown Galway Ford Patrick Tonagarraun Annaghdown Galway Ford Thomas Grange Annaghdown Galway Ford William Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Ford Mary Garrymore,Gardenham Annaghdown Galway Ford Martin Garrymore,Gardenham Annaghdown Galway Ford James Shankill Annaghdown Galway Ford Jeremiah Balrobuckbeg Annaghdown Galway Ford John Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Ford James Rinnaharney Annaghdown Galway Ford James Ballylee Annaghdown Galway Ford Bridget Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Ford Honoria Tonamace Annaghdown Galway Ford James Annaghdown Annaghdown Galway Ford John Baunmore Annaghdown Galway Ford John Corrandulla Annaghdown Galway Ford John, Jr. Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Ford John, Sr. Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Ford Martin Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Ford John Tonamace Annaghdown Galway Ford John Shanbally Annaghdown Galway Ford John Drumgriffin Annaghdown Galway Ford John Grange Annaghdown Galway Ford John Grange Annaghdown Galway Ford Anne Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Flaherty: Flaherty Michael Grange Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Michael Carrownrooaun Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Michael, Jr. Grange Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Patrick Annagh East Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Thomas Grange Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Patrick Lisheenanoran Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Mary Annagh East Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Martin Annaghdown Annaghdown Galway Flaherty John Coteenty Annaghdown Galway Flaherty John Corrandulla Annaghdown Galway Flaherty John Grange Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Margaret Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Margaret Kilgill Annaghdown Galway Flaherty Hugh Annagh West Annaghdown Galway Oceanstrands --- On Tue, 6/17/08, Lorraine Conroy <timlorr@embarqmail.com> wrote: Michael Flaherty born 1840 died 1911 in Bklyn, buried in > Holy Cross, his > wife Honora Ford/e born about 1840 d 1901 buried in HC > ,Bklyn.
