    1. Re: [IRL-MAYO] Reply Re: 1836 birth
    2. To Reed Livingston & Oceanstrands: I have the highest respect for "Oceanstrands" and the information that He / She provides to the Group as a whole. I certainly appreciate the effort and information in all of your posts. And I agree with everything in his recent post in response to my posting below. "seem logical that Mary Ellen Conroy would have been born/baptised in County Mayo" -- There were no Mary / Ellen Conroy / Conry's born in Mayo in 1836. However, upon further review there were 2 Mary Conry's born in Mayo in 1834 & 1838 and an Ellen Conry born in Mayo in 1835. So they certainly could have been in Mayo in 1836. I only used the "All Ireland" Data to come up with some ideas for Reed, since He had very limited information. If He chooses, He can look for the Parishes in Co. Mayo, or other Parishes in other Counties for a Marriage for Ellen & Michael. I guess my real reason for posting, was to point out that Conroy could be Conry, and Roach could be Rouche / Rouch/ Roach. "it should also be mentioned there's at least a 30 per cent error rate in the data entry in the database." -- I, personally, don't know where this percentage came from, but on the positive side, that would indicate 70% accuracy. When an individual has no / limited knowledge of his / her Ancestors, the IFHF can be a wonderful "Tool" to assist in locating Family members. But not to be used alone, nor as gospel. As All of us know, accurate records for Ireland before 1864 are hard to come by. The LDS provides a great source of information, if you can get to one of there centers. I am one of the few, who can't ! The Heritage Centers provide another source that is useful and I believe that the IFHF data is taken from the Heritage Centers. So, the IFHF is a summary of information for 70% of Ireland. (One Site instead of 32). Reed, If I gave you wrong information or misinformation, I apologize. And I again Thank Oceanstrands for his input. Eastern Daylight Time, oceanstrands@yahoo.com writes: Hello Ed, Since the message was posted on the County Mayo list it would seem logical that Mary Ellen Conroy would have been born/baptised in County Mayo and not in any of the other 32 counties or 64,000 towns and townlands in Ireland. There's a list of the names of all the towns and townlnads in Ireland on the Ireland Townland Database http://www.seanruad.com and pick any county of interest. If you look at County Mayo you'll see there are 3505 towns and townlands in County Mayo where she could have been born. Because people have the same given and surnames doesn't mean any connection to Mary Conroy or her specific family. It's just basically a same name search. Of course people can "adopt" people who are no connection to them whatsoever. In addition to identifying that not all records are included in the "IFHF-BRS" database it should also be mentioned there's at least a 30 per cent error rate in the data entry in the database. You also don't mention if your search was just for Roman Catholic parishes or included Church of Ireland (Anglican) parishes also. Look at the IFHF maps of counties covered to see not all counties are there: http://ifhf.brsgenealogy.com/map.php?&set=yes Then look at the individual counties which are included for the records sources used. For example, you quote Roscommon and Westmeath: Here are the records included in Roscommon, note many of the Roman Catholic parish records don't go back far enough to include a baptism for 1836: http://roscommon.brsgenealogy.com/generic.php?filename=sources.tpl&selectedMen u=showdatabase Here's Westmeath: http://westmeath.brsgenealogy.com/generic.php?filename=sources.tpl&selectedMen u=showdatabase Not all of County Cork is even included in the database let alone the Roman Catholic parish records, just "North Cork" is there.
