    1. Re: [IRL-MAYO] HERITAGE CENTRES
    2. Anne, If I were you, I would visit "both" centers and write (email) both this week requesting information re: Duddy & Gorman.  Also visit the graveyards where your hertiage may lie. Heritage centers, in Ireland are not prepared to allow you to look at anything the last time that we were there. You had to fill out a request, pay for the search and then wait at home for an answer. You may try visiting the church to look at their records, but it is best to arrange for an appointment to review records. Any view that you acquire will cost you, so be prepared.   Ask on the internet for help in CO Mayo and you may acquire more information.   Enjoy your visit and treat it as a vacation talking with folks as you travel and mentioning names, dates, locales, et al and you may find yourself speaking with a cousin or two along the way!   Bill ****** -----Original Message----- From: pneanne <pne.anne@ntlworld.com> To: irl-mayo@rootsweb.com Sent: Sat, 23 Aug 2008 9:26 am Subject: [IRL-MAYO] HERITAGE CENTRES Ny husband and I will be visiting Swinford, Mayo for the first time, a week on Tuesday, for a week. According to the 1871 Census in Garstang, Lancashire, this is where my great great grandfather John Duddy was born about 1830. He married Catherine Gorman at Meelick and Kilconduff church in 1856. I am not sure if Swinford comes under the North Mayo Heritage Centre or the South Mayo Heritage Centre. Swin ford seems to be half way between both. Please can someone put me right. Also, can you just walk into a Heritage Centre and look at records, or do you have to make an appointment? Many thanks, Anne ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to IRL-MAYO-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
