    1. [IRL-MAYO] Anthony Gibbons & Honora Costello

    3. If you felt the earth move yesterday it was not just an aftershock of the California earthquake. I may be to blame as I finally discovered the names of my great great grandparents on my great grandmothers brother’s death certificate. I have been searching for at least ten years for a clue and, as with all things, it was there all along. Anthony died before Honora (Nora) and her oldest three (my great grandmother Catherine Gibbons was only 5 or 6 months old) immigrated to the United States (Warren County, Ohio) from Castlebar, County Mayo. Catherine was born in or about 1844 and her brothers James and Patrick about two and four years earlier. Any information on these families would be GREATLY appreciated! 3. Hi Katie, Civil registration of births didn't start until 1864 and there aren't any census records surviving before 1901. Church parish records for Castlebar would be the source for Catherine and her siblings baptismal entries if they were all born in Castlebar. I assume they were Roman Catholic? The Roman Catholic parish records for Castlebar are available on microfilm on order through LDS. The parish records don't go back far enough to include Catherine's parents baptismal records if they were also baptised in Castlebar. Here's the detail parish information including the dates covered in the records and the LDS film #: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Mayo&parish=Castlebar&churchid=1039 Oceanstrands --- On Thu, 7/31/08, Katie Crow <kcrowrn@charter.net> wrote: > From: Katie Crow <kcrowrn@charter.net> > Subject: [IRL-MAYO] Anthony Gibbons & Honora Costello > To: IRL-MAYO-L@rootsweb.com > Date: Thursday, July 31, 2008, 3:37 AM > If you felt the earth move yesterday it was not just an > aftershock of the > California earthquake.
