Your ancestor may have applied and obtaine American citizenship at a time when the longer more detail form started, 1923 you stated. That would have the DOB he used. Also, depending upon who gave the information for his death certificate, it could have the correct birth date. He probably worked under Social Security, so a copy of that would have his birth date. If he married in the USA, check out Civil marriage license and wedding information at the church where he married in the USA. If he had children, that date might also be on a birth certificates for his children. Pension records, banks records, all would possibly have this data. If he went back to Ireland, a copy of his Passport application. Numerous ways to find the DOB he used in the USA. Draft registrations is another.
