Oceanstrands, I have a question regarding RC church records particularly in Mayo. My father was born and raised on Crimlin townland in Turlough CP as was his father (1857) and grandfather (1820?) before him. I have researched the original records but was disappointed that the church records only began in 1847. I recall speaking to a priest in Limerick County regarding church records and he told me that some old church records were destroyed by mice. How common was that? Were RC church records not kept because of persecution even as late as the early 1800's? Thanks.
