Hi June, Here's a link to the Catholic parish maps in Mayo, click on each parish and you'll find the dates each parish records cover, most of the records are available on microfilm on order through your nearest LDS Family History Center: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/browse/counties/rcmaps/mayorc.htm Not all the parish records may go back far enough to include John's baptismal record which is why you need to find out where he was born in Mayo. At least you'd know where he was from even if his baptismal information isn't available. Write to the church where he was married and ask for the information from the marriage register about his marriage. Churches abroad often required the Irish born emigrant provide proof of baptism from the home church here in Ireland. It may be a letter from the parish or some other confirmation of his baptism and where it was.
