The LDS site shows one Thomas Lavin birth registered in the Castlebar district in 1878, in July-Sept. 1878, vol. 4, p. 103. You can order the civil birth record from the GRO (groireland.ie) or get the film from the LDS and look it up yourself (film 0256012).
