For Anne Bamford and others researching these surnames. This is a long shot, but we get desperate! Have you come across a Rose CONLON from the Ballina area? Neighbors tend to migrate and intermarry together. Our CONLON m. to FUERY would have been RC. Our other surnames mixed into this loose Ballina area group and era were JORDAN and MELVIN. We have been trying to sort out Rose CONLON m. to Michael FUERY, ca. 1840's. If we could find their marriage, it might give clues to the rest of his likely 2nd family with Margaret DEVANNEY of Ballina area, Mayo. According to Michael & Rose FUERY's son John T. FUERY (b. abt. 1835-40 Ballina area, Mayo/Sligo), John T. and Marie CARDEN FUREY later lived on Kitchen Street in Liverpool 1. Griffiths Valuation of Ireland for Attymass, Co. Mayo lists 4 CONLAN dwellings: Conlan, Honoria and Conlan, Owen in Treanoughter townland; Conlon, Martin in Mullaghawny; Conlon, Patrick in Kilgellia. Earlier Tithe Applotments of 1834, Kilmoremoy Parish of (then) Co. Sligo shows James, Edward, Thady CONLON and a Michael FURY in Rathkip. Also Edward CONLON in Ballyholan and Patrick CONLON in Middle Ferrinmorgan. This Kilmoremoy area became Co. Mayo around 1898. A century earlier on a 1749 Census Index, gives spelling variations of several CONILAN, CONLANE, etc. in nearby Elphin Diocese, County Sligo. Hope this helps Anne. M. M. Melvin ******** Date: Sun, 15 Feb 2009 Subject: Re: JORDAN I have recently found the origins of my JORDAN and CONLON family to Kilgarvan which is near Ballina, Co Mayo: Henry JORDAN born abt 1809?of Kilgarvan Margaret CONLON born abt 1811?of Kilgarvan Their children: Anne born 1835 Liverpool, England; James born 1838 Liverpool; Henry born 1842 Kilgarvan, Co Mayo; John born 1846 Kilgarvan, Co Mayo Edward born 12 May 1850 Liverpool, England. I have them in the 1851 census living at 5 Ct New Bird Street, Liverpool and can trace them in all the following census. I have not found them in the 1841 which could mean they where already back in Ireland as a family. I tried just Henry name who might have been in Liverpool working, while the rest of the family went back to Co Mayo but I had no success. All known addresses for them are in Liverpool are very close to the docks. Does anyone recognize this family? Does anyone know of any sources I can use for records for County Mayo? I cannot confirm a religion... Edward married in a catholic church in Liverpool 1877, but could this relate to his wife's religion? Anne BAMFORD
