Hi Nancy, It's the same here in Ireland, many people named Bridget are called Delia. Delia is the nickname for Bridget. They both stem from the name Bedelia/Bidelia, an old Irish Gaelic/Celtic name meaning high one. The name Bridget, St. Bridget derives from that as well as Delia.
