Mayo so you want to see what the actual official civil marriage record says. I see the ages for Michael Gavin and Margaret McNeely were quoted according to the ages they gave on the marriage cert. Since they emigrated to the US you can look at the US 1900 census which is online and that will include their month and year of birth. Civil registration of births, i.e. vital records, began in Ireland in 1864 and since both of them were born after 1864 there should be civil birth certs for each of them. You can order those too from the General Register Office: http://www.groireland.ie and click on "apply for cert". You must have some record from the US for them giving their birthplaces in County Mayo and parents names. For example, Michael Gavin's US naturalisation record should be quite detailed about his birthplace in Ireland and may even include the ship they emigrated on as well as a physical description of him. I always recommend obtaining original records and always do so myself in my research. Transcriptions can contain errors and/or be incomplete. Regards.
