You may know my mother, Neil's granddaughter. Rose was her aunt. I met Fr. Placid when I was a child and remember him fondly. I visited Ballycroy in 2002 and spoke with many Cafferkeys and Conways but I didn't have any information about Neil's parents to share. My mother mentioned that Fr. Placid had done some research but I haven't seen it, although she did show me a copy of a letter Neil wrote to one of his daughters, and a poem he wrote, recalling his childhood in Ballycroy. I'd be delighted to learn whatever you know about Patrick Cafferkey and Mary Conway ( if I have their names correctly), their history in Ballycroy and America and the story behind the change of name to McCaffrey.
