Hi Kelsey, The anglicization of Irish surnames often causes us to come quickly to wrong conclusions. Mac Oiste is the name of an Irish family of Mayo. Although Mac Oiste was anglicized as Hosty, they are not German. Instead, MacLysaght reports that they are said to descend from a Welshman who came with the Normans to Mayo in the 13th century.
