I ask because my g grandmother Margaret (COONEY) FRIEL was from Achill, as were her siblings who emigrated between 1865 & approx. 1880. Her parents were Owen & Margaret (MCINTYRE) COONEY. This COONEY family settled in Cleveland, OH. To my knowledge they were not of the "Dan" COONEY clan which is a huge different Achill family, possibly from Achill Beg. Also have links to Galway in earlier times. COONEY is not considered a Mayo name per researchers at Trinity College Dublin. But they sure were numerouse in the 19th century in that area.
