They may have married in some out-of-the-way place to avoid confronting either family. Rootsireland.ie has mostly Catholic records but some Protestant, and putting more on line all the time. I keep a list of "brick walls" that I check every 6 months or so on rootsireland.ie and familysearch.org in the hopes the records I need got posted. Good luck!
