The vast majority of my records are from the Castlerea area. I have rarely had to make an educated guess on finding out who the parents were as they were usually included on the marriage certificate. I have gotten most of my records from the Irish Family History Foundation website. Maria Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Yes I have looked in the 1901 census for a parent who could possibly be Charles's parents. I found a Bridget Concannon who is a widow of 83 living with her son and family. This could easily be his mother but I will probably have to get the civil record in order to find out the father's name. I did search on familysearch.org but no results came which was quite surprising. Out of curiosity I put in marriage place as Mayo and date as 1886 and nothing came up. They mustn't have many records for Mayo. Maria Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. In Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan, in the 1860s, entries included parents as well as witnesses, and townlands for all (a printed form). In Gort, Co. Galway, also 1860s, just witnesses, as well as townland for bride and groom. In Ballygar, Co. Galway, 1850s, and Islandeady, Co. Mayo, 1840s, just witnesses, no townlands. I suspect the more rural parishes were less likely to use printed forms and thus included less information. Diane Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I have only seen this type of data on Irish & English Civil marriage records. Which we have made a donation over the years as we did our research in the Republic. All the sacramental marriage records we have dating back to 1820 (for a few) only have Bride, Groom, Date, Priest and sponsors. The majority we saw in the old record books at the various recory or left a list requesting all data on each entry be documented; with adequate donation. Author: MKelly379 Surnames: Concannon, Horan, Hopkins Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8690/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello, I have just purchased a church marriage record for the marriage of Charles Concannon and Mary Horan on 17 June 1886. It gives Charles's address as Tully, Roscommon and Mary's as Culcastle (which I believe is the same as Kilcashel) in Kilmovee. They married in Kilmovee RC parish. Their witnesses were Conor Concannon and Rose Hopkins. This is all fine but I was sickened to discover it doesn't give the parents' names. I believe these are given on the Civil Marriage instead. Mary's father was Michael but I don't know the name of Charles's father. Any help would be appreciated. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Mulherin Thadeus & Owen KathyDuncombe41 (View posts) Posted: 18 Sep 2001 4:50AM GMT Classification: Query Edited: 20 May 2002 5:03AM GMT Looking for any information on brothers Thady [Thadeus] later known as Edmund/Edward, and Owen, later known as John Mulherin/Mulearan/Mulhern etc. who were transported to NSW Australia in 1823. Thadeus would have been born c1801. Do you have these names in your family? Any information would be appreciated. According to a press report in The Freeman's Journal of 4 April 1822, p.3, Owen & Thady MULHEERAN were sentenced at County Sligo Assises. Unfortunately the original court records no longer exist and I have been unable to trace any information in Ireland about father's name and any siblings, or their parish, etc. In the Australian convict records, their place of origin is given as County Mayo. This suggests that they were living in a parish where these two counties meet. Try Killala Bay, Ballina area? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: patrickjhynes Surnames: Brogan Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8684.2.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Jean I also do not know if there is any connection between your Brogans and the Brogans of Crossmolina parish in County Mayo. Based on the Tithe Applotment Book and Mervyn Pratt Estate records, Edward and John Brogan appear to have been established in Tobermore and Polladoohy townlands of that parish since the 1830's when the earliest records of landholders in that area were kept. According to the "History of Crossmolina" book by Tony Donohoe these townlands consisted of rather poor land although they had been inhabited since the earliest times. By the 1830's, they were heavily populated but with a considerable amount of the green land having been reclaimed over many years by tenants who had been dispossessed elsewhere. Consequently, this group of Brogans may have arrived in Crossmolina parish from nearly any direction and at any point in the long history of Irish landholder dispossessions and migrations. My personal connection to these Crossmolina parish Brogans is that a daughter of my direct ancestor named Bartly McAndrew(s) of Polladoohy townland married an Edward Brogan who was the son of John Brogan of Polladoohy. This marriage of Edward Brogan (1843-1929) and Ann McAndrew(s) (1851-1934) took place in 1867 and the couple remained in Polladoohy and raised a large family named below: Mary Brogan (1867-abt 1900) immigrated to Anaconda, MT Bridget Brogan (1871-1954) immigrated to Anaconda, MT; married Patrick McHugh Catherine Brogan (1873-1956) immigrated to Anaconda, MT; married Patrick Ruane Winnifred Brogan (1874-1958) immigrated to Anaconda, MT; married Michael Markey Patrick Brogan (1876-1973) immigrated to Anaconda, MT; married Delia Horan John Brogan (1877-1974) immigrated to Anaconda, MT; returned to Polladoohy abt. 1904 where he was known as "Yankee John" to distinguish him from a first cousin also named John; married Mary McGown and raised a large family in Polladoohy. Edward Brogan (1879-19660 married Anne McGown James Brogan (1884-?) married Mary Cafferty Michael Brogan (1888-1920) immigrated to Anaconda, MT; Bartholomew Brogan (1889-1985) married Bridget Cafferty Because the original Edward Brogan family and the other descendants of John Brogan are not related to me I have not researched them to any depth as yet. I relied heavily on the information in the History of Crossmolina book for information on them in my earlier Brogan post. That book by Tony Dohohoe (ISBN 0 946130 38 8) which was available via De Burca Rare Books of Dublin but is probably out of print by now is an extremely valuable resource for anyone researching Crossmolina parish families.
