Author: judystreet1366 Surnames: SCOTT & BAIRD Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8708.2.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't know my Luke Scott's parents names or his wife Mary's last name or her parents names. So, I'm lost in finding these person's I just thought if I could connect with a Baird or a Scott researcher in that area I might be able to find them. They were Wesleyan Methodist and stuck to their religionwent they came over to LaChute Quebec in 1829. No sign of them in Lachute Quebec that's Luke & Mary the parent's . I found lots on the children Matthew, John, Robert(where I come in) Ann,Ellen, Jane.As they came over in 1829 The Griffith pages are of no use to me. the tighing I looked that up and yes they aren't there but I think it is because they were Methodist.....could be wrong... Author: judystreet1366 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8708.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I don't know how to check church records. Luke Scott brought his family over to Quebec Canada in 1829. so , they must have known the Bairds before they left. I don't know who Luke's Mother & Father were and don't have his wife's last name or her parents name that's why I have done it this way. They were Wesleyan Methodists and stuck to that religion ever in Canada......I think only the Catholic and Anglican church records are available, am I correct or wrong? Author: maryellenchambers Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8706.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Need more information re: your ancestors in Ireland, county Mayo specific. It appears you have English data which is really no help for Ireland with the exception it kinda makes a weak timeline. If your ancestors left Ireland pre 1864, your only places to search are sacramental records, Griffith Valuation, Tithe Applotments. For these to be of use, you need to know where in Mayo they had their oigins. Pre 1864 research is very difficult no matter what data you might have but yours is quite limited. Westport sacramental records for Catholic would be (if they exist) at St. Mary's Westport. Westport Heritage at the Quay has the same records for that area for fee. You can contact them on line. GOOGLE I don't have the exact address. They have a form and will make you aware of the cost. There is a website called Deese Genes which has personal records which might have some MORAN listing. There is another site which is similar but will have to check that website & get back to you. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. My 3rd great grandparents were James Hamil and Rose Berry from near Newport, who left Ireland in about 1850 and settled in Scranton PA. There are a lot of Morans in Scranton, as well. I'd suggest you look under Burrishoole parish, which is the RC parish around Newport. Oughaval is where Westport is located. Author: DianeCulhane46 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8705.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: You'll need to do more research in England before hunting for Patrick in Mayo. If he married or had children baptized in England, that would help, as witnesses or godparents might be relatives. Children's names might also give clues. But Mayo with no parish gives you no way of figuring out which of the dozens of Patrick McDonnells born in Mayo about that time was yours. You asked about the parents, and I may have an answer for you. I discovered the grave of Thomas Robert b. 1821 in Fourth Line Old Methodist Cemetery, Adelaide, Middlesex. The marker reads "In memory of Thomas Robert, son of James and Jane McNeice". Unfortunately, the dates are all but obscured, but many other family members are also buried in this cemetery, so I believe it may be him. See attached photo.
