She was the daughter of Owen and Margaret nee MCINTIRE COONEY. Several of her siblings came out from 1870 to 1890. Many resided in The Angle. My g aunt Ann nee MCFADDEN MCNAMARA MOONEY's first husband was a Thomas MCNAMARA from Ashlearn Achill. Author: kevinsheridan55 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8726/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Can anyone help me find the family of a John Sheridan born in Ireland in 1828. John left Ireland for Scotland and in 1853 married an Elizabeth Pringle in Wigtonshire, Scotland. John died in 1873 in the Parrish of Penningham, Wigtonshire, Scotland. I am hoping to find the Sheridans in County Mayo connected to this John Sheridan so I can confirm that this is the correct John Sheridan and hopefully make a visit there this summer. I found a Birth Record in the region South Mayo for a John Sheridan in 1828, whose parents were Patrick Sheridan and Bridget Sheridan. Is this indeed the John Sheridan who moved to Scotland and is my relative? Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Author: kdiamond167 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/2354.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Holly Its been a while since your post and you may have found answers. In case you haven't, I'm researching lots of my relatives across north Mayo and am familiar with some names. Bunnyconnellan East and West are two townlands in the parish of Kilgarvin and the barony of Gallen, as is the townland of Drumsheen. They're the other side of Ballina, and not that far from Crossmolina but in the 1800s you probably wouldn't travel too much between these parishes with lack of transport. There were a number of Judge and Nallen families in Crossmolina and while James Francis Judge and his siblings may have been born in Crossmolina, it looks like the family may have moved to Bunnyconnellan East when young. I've found what looks like this family in Bunnyconnellan East in 1901. Try www.leitrim-roscommon.com for 1901 census. Patrick's wife is called Honor in 1901 but I am aware of some women named Honor(ia) Anne, and then mainly called Anne. It looks like the same family in nearby Drumsheen in 1911 but I'll leave you to work that out. In 1911 it said that Patrick and Annie had 8 children, but only 6 still living in 1911. See www.census.nationalarchives.ie (has 1911 and 1901 census). Theres a James on both 1901 and 1911 census but it doesn't give his second name. I've seen a Sabina Callaghan born to a Catherine and Patrick Callaghan in the townland of Coolturk, parish Crossmolina on 1911 census. Dont know if this is yours but this Sabina would have been born around 1906. The Church of the Latter Day Saints website www.familysearch.org has someone who has recorded a Pat Judge, born 1865 and an Ann Nallen, born 1869 with a child Mary Ella (Ellen) Judge, born 1891. Mary Ellen went to Baltimore and married an Owen Sweeney. Had a daughter Rita, born 1921. This looks like it could be one of yours. Hope this is of some use if you haven't already discovered things. Author: DaveBoylan Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8720.2.1.1.2.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hello Pat, There's no way of knowing if the Find-A-Grave entry refers to Martin Mellican's father, but I suppose there is the possibility that the grave does refer to Martin's father, but you would need more evidence to confirm that. I also can't be sure that the IFHF index I found after my last communication refers to your Martin Mellican. I had redoubled my efforts to look for the baptism of a Martin Mellican at the IFHF and found one possibility. This shows a Martin Mellican, son of Martin Mellican and Catherine, baptized in the Kilrossanty, County Waterford Catholic Church in 1851. As you know, the nickname for Catherine is Kate, and Kate is listed as Martin's mother in Martin's death record. By the way thank you for sending the death record attachment for Martin, which gives his age as "About 55," placing his year of birth in 1855. But, his age in the 1880 census is listed as 27, placing his year of birth in 1853. And so, 1851 would not be too much off the mark, given that ages in old census returns and death records may not be accurate.. The index for Martin is below: 1 match for the search criteria: Mellican Martin 1851 Parish: KILROSSANTY (RC) Record Type: Baptism/Birth Records for Co. Waterford Surname: Mellican First Name: Martin Father's Surname: Mellican Father's First Name: Martin Mother's Surname: Mother's First Name: Catherine Year: 1851 Parish/District: KILROSSANTY (RC) ____ I couldn't find the maiden name for Martin's mother Catherine. The IFHF search engine did not accept Halfpenny or any other variant of the surname. I had some credits left over from previous searches at the IFHF, and so purchased the baptism transcription for Martin, and was disappointed to find that the transcription does not include Catherine's maiden name, though does show that the sponsors, or godparents were John Casey and Catherine Mellican. The transcription is below: Church Baptism Record Name: Martin Mellican Date of Birth: Date of Baptism: 01-Feb-1851 Address: Parish/District: KILROSSANTY Gender: County Co. Waterford Denomination: Roman Catholic Father: Martin Mellican Mother: Catherine Occupation: Sponsor 1 / Informant 1: John Casey Sponsor 2 / Informant 2: Catherine Mellican Notes: ____ But again Pat, I can't be sure this baptism refers to your Martin. Have you obtained the birth and death records for all of Martin and Mary's children, to see if these records give at least a county of birth in Ireland for their father? Knowing the county of his birth would narrow down the search for his baptism record, if it exists. Hopefully Pat you'll be able to find more information about Martin. Please let me know how you progress as your search goes on. Best of Luck, Dave Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
