I also have Gillespie from Donegal. I will look for your bother's tree. While I was in Ireland, we only stayed in Mayo, part to do research. We went to Castlebar Library , cemeteries, and St. James Church in Charlestown where my great grandparents married. And everywhere else you can think. There is a Mr. John Doherty who is in charge of the Tample cemetery. Very nice man. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. However, they don't have the name McNulty attached to their surnames. I'm starting with Coyle. I had DNA testing done through 23andme.com. on the website, you list surnames and country/city, etc. I share with a lot of people all over Ireland, and 992 people world-wide. connecting the closest relative is difficult. Do you have a McNulty tree? Take a look at my tree. my first relative was Bryan McNulty. he came to the USA sometime before 1872. after his first wife maggied died, he remarried a Maria Fanning and they went back to Cashel, Chalrestown Mayo in 1888. I'm not sure where Bryan was born, that is what I want to find out. but, since he went back to Charlestown, and all the other relatives McNultys were from Killgriff West, i'm guessing he was originally from that area. In 2011 my cousin and I were in Mayo for almost 2 weeks. we were in Ballina too! want to go back so bad! . hopefully next year. i'm on facebook, Michelle Iuffrida-Beretsky. Maybe our McNulty's were related. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Susan has connections to Ballina area MELVIN surname. There are many helpful MELVIN-Mayo records indexed at: http://www.richpettit.com/melvin/familyhistory.htm<http://www.richpettit.com/melvin/familyhistory.htm> Be sure to check County Sligo for that time and place as well. While my own 1860 era immigrant Patrick John MELVIN had 2 brothers named James and John, both were priests. We know that their parents were Patrick MELVIN and Bridget McHALE. His 3 sisters were Sarah [MELVIN] KEANE of Seattle, Anne [MELVIN] O'BOYLE of Burtonport, Donegal, and Mary [MELVIN]McHUGH of New York City. My g-gf P. J. MELVIN arrived in NYC, sign up in 1861 to U.S. Marines for Am. Civil War, discharged 1863 in Philadelphia, m. abt. 1862 in Conshohocken, Montgomery County, Pennsylvania to Margaret FUERY from Mayo. There was a 19th C. Martin MELVIN family concerned with the Moy Hotel in Ballina, as you will find on the aforementioned website. Good Irish luck on your James and John! MMM

The family I knew with the surname, had a son Steve who was a fighter pilot in WWII and a son John who was a submariner. John never came back. Remember his death and another "Gubbie" KIVES killed at Guadecanal (SP?) made a tremendous impression on my 5 yr. old self. They were tall men and would lift me up over their heads saying, "Taking you to the sky!!" In it's day that area was predominantly Irish with some Hungarian families. Mostly Mayo origins and Achill for many. St. Patrick's Bridge Ave. was the center of their lives. My Dad grew up in St. Ignatius parish, living on W 97th. Know the area on Achill. My maternal side still reside just outside of Westport in the former townland of Streamstown, now Belclare. My cousin's wife Ann is a "Dan" COONEY descendant from near Shraheen on Achill. I know my COONEY line is not of the "Dan" COONEY clan. We try to get over at least once a year.
