    1. [IRL-MAYO] Petition to Open 1926 Irish Census in 75 rather than 100 years !IMPORTANAT
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: Murph_ Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8732/mb.ashx Message Board Post: All, Rarely are there such important opportunities as this one. The Law in Ireland said Census keep private until 100 years have passed. But due to the lack of anything but the 1901 and 1911 Census, many people do not realize a 1926 Census Exists! The petition to open it in 75 rather than 100 years is online http://www.cigo.ie/campaigns_1926.html But I do not think it can be added to as people attempting to sign it have reported failure. So I suggest everyone email, snail mail (I know its expensive) or otherwise call the TD/MP in Ireland, and anyone in the Irish Gov. It would be great for anyone searching for their ancestors in Ireland 1900-1926 and even before or after. It could be opened in the 75 years, as that has already passed. But, I may be wrong on that account. So far I have been able to determine that all the families from my Irish side of the family, "appear" to have originated in and around Tourmakeady, now in South Mayo, but then, (at the time of the famine), in Co.Galway. My Hannicks married into the Malley, O'Malley, Mailey family and settled in and around, Perth, Dundee, Forfar, and several other parts of Perthshire and Co. Angus in Scotland, post 1846. Let me know if you'd like to have some names, dates etc. Best regards Eduard & Jenny Klak Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am researching my fammily, especially the Hannicks in Mayo. The Hannicks I am researching come from the Ballysokeery, Ballina area of North Mayo, which is very near Killala. The earliest Hannick I can find is a Michael Hannick in the 1796 Linen Growers of Ireland report and he is in Killala. Are the Hannicks you are researching from North Mayo? Any info that you may have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Teresa Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. It's unlikely baptismal records from 1820 survive, and even if you find some possibilities, the names are common and you couldn't be sure you had the right Michael and Julia. Irish genealogy is a tagle. The DNA is worth it. I share DNA with 992 people world-wide who took the same test / on webiste 23andme.com Once on you creat a user profile, either public or private. you get a list people you share DNA with, and can exchange info. alot of people stay private and dont want to be bothered. you get a 'map view' option. this is a world map with all the people you share DNA with as 'pin-points' on the map. but that only shows if they have a town/country listed in their profile. you get a breakdown of ethnic background that goes back begining of mankind. I have 3% neanderthal. lol. you get a full health report. you chose to 'read' the report or not. the report shows your top health risks like Cancer, your inherited genes, reactions to meds, etc. some people DO NOT want their health reports, so opt out to NOT opening them. The data and the options on how to view it or compare it to others is incredible. and there are message boar! ds to exchange info. Author: kandddad Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/3106.7.2.1.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I was just reading the string of today's postings. Really interesting. My grandmother, Catherine A. McNulty (born Dec 29 in either 1890, 1891, or 1894 - we've been provided all these years however her birth certificate shows 1890) in Aclare, Co Sligo but grew up and attended school in Co Mayo around Foxford. Her dad was Anthony McNulty and mother was Winifred (nee Roach/Roache). My great grandmother (Winifred) is said to have died within days of giving birth to my grandmother. My great grandfather then married a woman named Honora (or something very close to that). My grandmother had numerous siblings and a few half siblings. Three of her older sisters (Winnie, Annie, and Betsy) immigrated to the Winchester/Woburn, Mass. area and later, one of them traveled back and brought my grandmother back with her (1914). I have heard rumor of relatives in either Chicago or Cincinnati but I thought those relatives were on my grandfather's side. Could have been on my grandmother'! s side however. I don't know of any Buckly's in the family but, I know one of my grandmothers' sisters daughter, married someone with the last name Buck. I believe this was my great aunt Winnies daughter. My Ruane/Ruan connection is also on my grandmother's side of the family. One of her older brothers' (I believe his name was Martin), had two, or three daughters who immigrated to the Winchester/Woburn area just long enough to earn enough money to return home and buy a farm. One of these daughters married her childhood sweetheart on return to Ireland. He was a Ruane/Ruan. I believe it was the Ruane's/Ruan's that ended up owning a Bed and Breakfast in the Dublin area. One of these sisters that traveled to the US briefly ended up owning a small grocery store and/or gas station/auto repair on return to Ireland. Wish I had my research with me. I do have the names of the husbands of Winnie, Annie, and Betsy/Bessie but outside one being Martin Quinn, I don't recall the others. My grandmother married George O'Donnell. Maybe I need to have DNA testing done as well. Mike O'Donnell Seattle kandddad@aol.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
