Mary Ellen Chambers message about Irish records didn't have any relevance to PatWicklow's message because PatWicklow wasn't talking about Irish records, he/she was talking about records in the US and experiences there researching them for Hastings who had emigrated from Mayo. Mary Ellen told PatWicklow "For those traveling to Ireland for research... Don't leave the impression of the "Ugly" entitled Tourist" when PatWicklow lives in Ireland, is obviously not a tourist and wasn’t talking about Irish records. Mary Ellen Chambers said she didn't make a mistake posting to PatWicklow but said: "I was aware of your origins but was responding not to your USA research but the impression you gave re: research at the Irish parish level, in Ireland". Don't see how PatWicklow couldn't have responded to Mary Ellen Chambers messages since they were directed specifically to him/her and weren't even relevant to what PatWicklow had said and were just based on Mary Ellen's impression and not the facts mentioned by PatWicklow in the message thread. It always helps to read all the messages in the message thread. Diane, Thank you for your good luck wishes and I`m sure I`ll need a lot of it as I`ve found so far after joining the list on the 7th Aug` last, that Irish records particularly around Castlebar are scarce in the timeslot that I`m interested in, but we`ll see I suppose. Regarding the speed of my local LDS centre. You have no way of knowing, but I ordered the two films that deal with Bapt`s & Marr`s for Castlebar almost a month ago, well before I joined the Mayo list . Perhaps you are not aware that there are other sources for information of all sorts of things other than the local lists which is where I found full details of the 4 films that the LDS hold, anyway thank you for your input to my problem much appreciated, John McCarthy in Australia On 09/08/2008, at 10:45 PM, DLCulhane@cs.com wrote: > Wow, you've got a really fast LDS center to get the films already! > Be sure to > watch for other children of Dan and Ann, and for the children to start > becoming godparents in their teens. Even if he was born after civil registration of births started in Ireland you'd still need his parents names and birth location in Mayo to get his birth record. No census records survive here before 1901. Church parish records for his birthplace in Mayo and his religious denomination are the possible location for a baptismal record if the church records for his birth location survive. You can search the 1891 and 1901 England census records and even the 1871 England census if he was there then to see if his birth location in Mayo is included in one of those. Otherwise you'll have to get his marriage information there from the church to see if it includes where he was born in Mayo and his parents names. His children's church baptismal records might include his birthplace in Mayo. Also his obituary, tombstone, and cemetery record. All the England civil registration records are available online. Those will help you find the local marriage and children's baptisms in England. You'll need to find out what his religious denomination was also. There's a list of the names of all the towns and townlands in Mayo at the Ireland Townland Database link I previously gave you. http://www.seanruad.com and pick Mayo as your search county from the drop down menu. There are 3505 towns and townlands in Mayo where he could have been born. There are no records here about who left, where they went. There were no ship passenger records from Ireland to England. To find out if the Patrick Flaherty you've found in the US census record in Schuylkill Co. Flaherty is a very common surname in Ireland. There aren't any civil birth records in Ireland before 1864. No surviving census records before 1901. Church parish records for Patrick's birthplace in County Mayo or Ireland would be the possible location for a baptismal record for him if they survive back to his birth year. If he was related to your Edward and born in Belmullet those church records don't survive back to his birth year in 1835 for baptisms, they begin in 1841, see: http://www.irishtimes.com/ancestor/fuses/rcparishmaps/index.cfm?fuseaction=showidrecords&CityCounty=Mayo&parish=Belmullet&churchid=742 Pat Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hello Diane, Thanks for your reply I appreciate your trouble in getting back to me. Yes both films have arrived at my local LDS centre and I will be looking at them next Wed`for the first time, I don`t think I will find anything on Mary Ann as the films begin beyond her birth year but young John being born in 1840 may be there .......I hope, Thanks again, John McC` On 08/08/2008, at 10:00 PM, DLCulhane@cs.com wrote: > Castlebar RC parish records have been filmed by the LDS, are on > films 1279260 > and 61. Deb, Alburq, NM The north mayo center normally takes around 3-4 months to gather things up and then direct them to you. I have utilized them a couple of times and suggest placing a message in writing to them citing your problem (obviously $65) and requesting a response. Provide your e-mail address and would suspect you will receive a response within around 1 1/2 weeks.? Have Faith! They are not a scam.
