If you go to the Griffith's index on failteromhat.com, you can look for O'Malleys and Ryders in Griffith's, which was done 1856/57 in Mayo. Look for civil parishes that have both names and then search the records of the corresponding RC parishes through the LDS films or the Irish Family History Foundation site. Diane
My 3great grandparents were Jane Ryder and John O'Malley from County Mayo. They show up on the 1860 US census in Cincinnati, Ohio, so they emigrated before 1860 and were married in Ireland. Their death certs say only County Mayo. I'd like to find their townland in Co. Mayo and connections in Ireland. Isn't there a way to do a comparison of households in Co. Mayo prior to 1860 that had the names O'Malley and Ryder? Thanks in advance to anyone who can advise me. Barbara in St. Louis, Missouri USA

Hello Rachel, Your sister shouldn't have any difficulty finding Cloonrow, if she does she can ask locally in Urlaur village. There's still a Grennan listed in Urlaur in the phonebook here. You can search the 1901 online Mayo census for Grennans through the following link, just select Mayo as the search county and enter Grennan as the Head of Household surname: http://www.leitrim-roscommon.com/1901census/census.shtml There are several Grennan entries in the local parish records which have been transcribed and listed on the East Mayo website: http://eastmayo.org/Kilmovee_Baptisms_1854_1910_and_1881_1913.htm Pat and John Grennan (Grunnin) are listed in the Tithe Applotments in Cloonrow and Urlaur (Orlaur)in 1825: http://www.connorsgenealogy.net/Mayo/KilmoveeParishTithes.htm Oceanstrands --- On Tue, 11/11/08, Rachel Goulet <elsoar@gmail.com> wrote: > From: Rachel Goulet <elsoar@gmail.com> > Subject: [IRL-MAYO] Cloonrow > To: irl-mayo@rootsweb.com > Date: Tuesday, November 11, 2008, 11:28 AM > Thanks for this - looking at Google Maps' driving > directions it seems we are > talking about the same area. My Great Grandmother, Margaret Agnes Morley emigrated to the U.S. in 1883 via Philadelphia ending up in Chicago. Her parents were John Morley who married Mary Cox in Kilmovee Parish in 1843. I believe I have found 4 of my G-Grandmother's siblings on www.eastmayo.org: Anne who married John Lyons; John who married Mary Campbell; James; and Mary who married Luke Glavy. At least three of John and Mary Campbell Morley's sons, emigrated to Chicago: John and Anthony arrived in Chicago via Canada in 1927. I think another son William also emigrated but I am still researching immigration records. They did have a brother named Michael born in 1892. John and Mary Campbell had nine children: Patrick, Michael, Thomas, John, James Martin, Anthony, Mary, Ellen and William. Is it possible that my Morley's and yours are related?
