He was born around 1857 and his father was also called Michael. I know he was in england on the 1881 census and he married in chesterfield in 1878 to a Margaret Hannan daughter of John Hannan (John was also from Ireland and he married another Irish girl Ann Manion in Chesterfield, England in 1853). I don't know if the two Hannan families were connected. I am at my very high brick wall on this subject - how do i find any more on his Irish Roots?? any suggestions greatly received! You could check the Irish Family History Foundation site, though it's not complete. It shows 2 Thomas McGuires baptized in 1842 and 2 in 1844, 1 Margaret Hynes in 1843 and 1 in 1844. You could see what parishes they were from. Also, you could check the Griffith's index for parishes that included both McGuires and Hyneses, then check the parish registers. I think we have different pieces of this puzzle. The Cornelius Joseph Cafferkey you mention was probably my great grandfather, later known as Neil McCaffrey. He served in the Iowa volunteers in the Civil War and spent his later years in Keokuk. I knew his mother was called Mary Conway and that they came from Ballycroy, but not much else. The Ballycroy church records prior to the 1860s were lost in a fire. I've never investigated a Bangor connection. Are you descended from Neil as well, or from Catherine or Mary? I hope you will see this and reply. I would love to know your source for these birth dates and the details of the Cafferkeys' emigration and first years in America. Author: trishtoo Surnames: DALY, O;ROURKE Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/7913/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi, Just putting info out here in hopes that it strikes a chord with someone. My DALYs who migrated to the US were: John (ca. 1795-1843), James (ca. 1800-1843) and Lawrence (ca. 1803-1905). John and James seem to arrive in Ohio, USA ca. 1833 according to a land purchase. They did not arrive on the same ship, but they connected somewhere after arrival, and were naturalized in Ohio at the same time. John may have been here longer because he files "fist papers" in Ohio. Lawrence shows on the 1900 US Census that he came to the US in 1830. There are no records of him in Ohio until about 1845, when he is naturalized. He probably arrived in Ohio abt. 1844, after James died, as he married James' widow. I believe the 3 were brothers, and I've been told that their father's name may have been Michael, as this was the "adopted" middle-name used by Lawrence on my Grandfather's Wedding Certificate. In 1859, a Michael DALY arrives in Boston, marries Catherine ROURKE(O'Rourke), who arrived in 1861 and by 1863 their first child is born in Ohio. They lived on farmland owned by Lawrence. It's very possible that Michael, born ca. 1830 is also a brother to the other 3 DALYs. His birthdate rules him out as father of the other 3. John and James could sign their names, but Lawrence could not read or wrtie, and signed documents with an 'X'. Michael could read and write, and may have sent a letter or 2 home to Ireland. A curious thing that has always "bothered" me is that while James is the younger of the John/James team, he is the one who purchases the land in Ohio, sells some of it to John, and then moves to another "town" across the road from John. I would think that the older of the two would have been the one to invest in land and sell it. If anyone has any insight as to why this might have happened, I appreciate your comments. Also, If any of this sounds even vaguely familiar, please let me know. Many thanks, Trish Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Hi, Part of the jigsaw of my Irish family research comes from the General Valuation Revision lists held on microfilm by the Latter Day Saints. Unfortunately the indexing of these isn't complete and I can't find the entries of a couple of townlands. Although I have an idea which films they may be on, the series of books for a particular townland weren't always filmed chronologically, so ordering films on a hunch might be a wasted expense. Does anyone known the LDS film numbers for these townlands and dates: Cornanool townland (Islandeady parish, Castlebar union) after 1900. Lappallagh townland (Islandeady parish, Westport union) around 1870. Cornanool townland after 1900 begins at the end of film 857692, but, irritatingly, doesn't continue on film 857693. If you've come across any of these neighbouring townlands, they will be on the same film: For Cornanool - Graffa More, Graffa Beg, Tawnteeny, Drumadoon, Raheens, Derryharriff South. For Lappallagh - Barnastang, Cummer, Boheens, Carra, Derrycoosh. If anyone has direct access to the books, the information I'm looking for is Leneghan/Lenohan/Henohan tenants in Lappallagh around 1870 and Malley/O'Malley tenants in Cornanool after 1900. Any help appreciated, David O'Malley.
