Surnames: Malone, Gibbons, Curley, O'Dwyer, Mylott, Ryan, Hynes, Condon Please forgive repeat post. I lost my head and mistakenly posted last weekend. Now that St. Patty's Day revelry has worn off, I thought I would try again. NEED MORE INFO. AND WOULD BE GRATEFUL FOR ANY LOOKUP HELP ON: **My gg grandfather/mother--JOHN MALONE(abt 1818-Apr. 23,1882) and MARY (GIBBONS) MALONE (abt 1833-7/18/1908) of West Cloggernagh, Westport dist., Addergoole, County Mayo. MARY's parents were DOMINICK and MARY GIBBONS. **PETER MALONE (abt 1800?--?)listed (1856-57 Griffiths) in East Cloggernagh, Islandeady dist., Addergoole, County Mayo. So still needing to verify Peter's birth info and not familiar with the geography (between Westport and Islandeady), theorizing is it possible that this Peter could be my ggg living near John and Mary??? **WINIFRED MALONE (abt.???) shows up as a witness to christening of one of John's and Mary's kids in West Cloggernagh. Could she possibly be John's mother or sister at christening? **PATRICK MALONE(abt June 16, 1850)(son of John & Mary above)--Living in IRELAND 1908 **JOHN MALONE(abt Mar. 14, 1852)(son of John & Mary above)--Living in Lowell 1908 (according to an Aunt was a possible storekeeper/grocer in Ballinrobe? IRELAND in 1917?) **SARAH MALONE CURLEY(abt Feb. 22,1857) (daughter of John & Mary above)--Married HUGH CURLEY--Living in IRELAND 1908, (draper listed in 1901 census in Ballinrobe??) OVERVIEW OF RESEARCH TO DATE: Using Lowell (MA) City Hall, Failtermorhat-Griffiths Valuation 1856-57 and Mayo Heritage Center info. have now traced with some confidence the MALONE family of Lowell, Massachusetts back to my gg grandfather/mother--JOHN MALONE(abt 1818-Apr. 23,1882) and MARY (GIBBONS) MALONE (abt 1833-7/18/1908) of West Cloggernagh, Westport dist., Addergoole, County Mayo. MARY's parents were DOMINICK and MARY GIBBONS (abt 1810?). JOHN's father, who would be my ggg grandfather, was PETER MALONE (abt 1800?-?) and married to a MARY ----? possibly of East Cloggernagh, Islandeady dist., Addergoole, County Mayo. WINIFRED MALONE (possibly John's sister?) shows up as a witness to christening of one of John's and Mary's kids in West Cloggernagh. JOHN immigrated to USA between 1863?-1875; MARY is found to live in Lowell 1882?-1908; Naturalized 1875?; Both buried in St. Patrick's Cemetery (Lowell). Christening records (Mayo Family Hist. Ctr) show 6 children born to JOHN and MARY in Ireland: Patrick, John, Peter, Sarah, Hugh & Mary (3 survived mother Mary up to 1908 in Lowell and 2 lived in Ireland) PATRICK (abt June 16, 1850)--Living in IRELAND 1908 JOHN (abt Mar. 14, 1852)--Living in Lowell 1908 (later a storekeeper/grocer in Ballinrobe? PETER's son THOMAS P. MALONE married KATHERINE MYLOTT who had 5 kids including my father PAUL J. MALONE. JOHN MYLOTT and HANNAH RYAN of Ireland were KATHERINE'a parents. My dad PAUL J. MALONE married RITA CONDON. Rita's parents were DANIEL CONDON from Blarney, Cty Cork and MARY HYNES possibly from Belelare, Carkeens, Cty. Galway. Appreciate whatever new leads I can get. In addition to looking at K for Keane, Kane, etc., then C for Cain, and Cane, look under O for O'Keane, O'Cain, etc. The spelling seemed to reflect the clerk's background rather than the individual. Old RC parish records tend to use the old Irish naming, later church records use the most common version of the time, while the same Civil record might use the English version. Good luck to that! My grandfather's first marriage in 1877 was reported with name spelled Kane and Cain in the civil and RC church records. Therefore you need to look using various alternate spellings. Also he emigrated to the USA in 1880 and settled in Manchester, NH. Surprisingly there were two Patrick Joseph Keane's in Manchester and both the same age. His second wife was Bridget Gilrain from County Roscommon and her brother John (who also settled in Manchester) was named Kilrain. Good luck in your searching -- it takes a lot of careful work. You might also look for Joseph's parents on the site, as probably born around 1880-90. The Griffith's index on failteromhat.com shows Hennellys and Tiernys most numerous in Ballinrobe civil parish, which is Burriscarra RC. Records for that parish are on LDS film 0979699, items 1-2, covering years 1839-1903. Duabe Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
