Author: JULGAVIN Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8403.1.2/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Dear Annette, I took your advice and have a happy ending to report. I looked online for Walshes in Cloongowla and found only one. I wrote him a letter--took me several months to mail it but I finally did. And received an email response almost immediately. They turned out to be my family still living on the land my grandfather left so many years ago. I have now "met" members of my family in Ireland and in the States by email and phone and have more answers than I ever thought possible. We are hoping to meet sometime in 2012. Thank you again for your suggestion! it certainly paid off. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: DianeCulhane46 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8454.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Just focusing on Mary for now, there are two directions you could go. Rootsireland.ie shows baptisms for Mary Clearys in 1858 and 1860, but the fathers aren't Patrick and you have to pay 5 euros each to view the entries. The other direction involves tracking the Patrick Clearys in Griffith's, which was done about the time Mary was born, so good chance he was listed (the index is on failteromhat.com). There were Patrick Clearys in Annagh, Ballyhean, Burrishoole, Crossboyne, Kilcolmon, Kilcommon, and Toomore civil parishes. You could convert them to Catholic parishes on the Irish Times site, note which have records filmed back to 1857, and check the films. I can save you a little time by noting Burrishoole/Newport and Toomore records start too late, while Annagh/Ballyhaunis, Ballyhean/Castlebar, Crossboyne, and Kilcolmon/Claremorris go back far enough. Kilcommon civil parish includes 4 Catholic parishes, but only Belmullet goes back far enough, and perhaps Kiltane. You could follow the same process for Martin--see if he's in rootsireland.ie or if his father is in the Griffith's index on failteromhat.com. According to family legend, she emigrated to America around 1870, meeting Irishman Martin Melligan on the ship & marrying him. They settled back-of-the-yards in Chicago, but I can find no records of their births or emigration. Her parents (as listed on her death cert.) were Patrick Cleary & Bridget Flanery; his parents were Martin Melligan and Kate Hapnick. What drew youir family to Sheffield could be an allied skill to the steel industry,Blacksmith or associated skills. A number of McGrails appear in Sheffield around the same time, a Mary and Patrick being the senior, if your immediate line reveals little these other McGrails could be extended family. The first birth in Sheffield appears to be Paul around 1844, a very unfamiliar christian name and if your family has followed the practice of nameing their children after their grandfather/father and brothers could also be another refernce point. There was a Paul born abt 1838 in Ireland who ended up in Indiana around 1866. Could both be named after their grandfather? Paul had a son born in Ireland called Daniel abt 1860 . Dates are never precise but there is a record of a marriage in Kilmeena, Westport in 1865 on the familysearch.org site of a Daniel McGreal born in 1811 whose Father was a Paul McGreal.I have made a lot of presumptions based purely on christian names but if you have a parish it should narrow down your next step. There are some records on Deese geenes Have Irish Eyes, which may be of some help. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Author: sarycakes Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.ireland.may.general/8452/mb.ashx Message Board Post: (I am going to paste an email I've sent to so many people. All the information I'm looking for is there.) Hello, my name is Sara Lauzon. I am 21 years old, and I am living in a small town known as Cornwall, in Ontario, Canada. The reason I am emailing you is because I am hoping to locate some information regarding two O'Reilly's. I am currently writing a book about a very wonderful man, who served as a judge in our town for nearly 30 years. I am looking for an information regarding his father (James O'Reilly) and his grandfather (Peter O'Reilly). >From what little information I do have about them and their coming to Canada, I can tell you this: James was born in Westport, County Mayo, Ireland on September 16th 1823. They came to Upper Canada in 1832. James married Rose Mary Bermingham. They had a son (I don't know if they had any other children) Judge James Redmond O'Reilly. This is whom I am writing a book about. He was born on Feburary 14th 1862, and he died on April 23rd 1929. He was born in Kingston Ontario, died in Cornwall Ontario. I am trying my best to create a family tree, and get dates and such organized in a way that I'll be able to tell people their family history through story. However, this is easier said then done. I would sincerely appreciate any information you could provide me regarding either Peter or James.. Any pictures, any information, help me get into contact with direct family members, a family that always kept close to the O'Reilly's.. Anything of this regards would be a dream come true. This has been a mission now for 4 years, I am determined to write this book to honour this man. I thank you so much for taking the time to read this email, and I look forward to hearing from you. Sara. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. If you would like to reply to them, please click on the Message Board URL link above and respond on the board.

Patricks father was a weaver . So assuming they came over during famine , mind you my rellie,s do confirm that , according to family stories. some went to America. I was wandering if his father John died during the famine here in England as i found the death of a John and wife Ann in Liverpool. Finding it so hard to find Patricks birth or any type of info as to which part of Ireland he is from? i have been given some births ranging from 1833 / 38 in Galway, Mayo , Limmerick. with fathers named John. The one from Galway 1833 fits the age on census. but someone told me they may not be correct.so looking for something ,anything ? to confirm where he came from. thanks again for replying, fingers crossed this does not disapear.
